what about good old milk?? will that boost the calcium???? i've been wondering about this as i think my soil is deficient in it.
i have tons of eggshells....and then dogs who dig them up so i cant use.
but what about milk? (i should note i milk dairy goats so its 'free', such as it is) would...
come on steve, you arent a true pro until you have THREE freezers like us!!!
it helps that we can store them turks 'on the hoof'.. but there's nothin' like a big row of freezers to make you happy you dont have to do to the grocery!
hey! "everybody loves a freezer!" right?
hee hee hee hee
now...
my raised beds are doing poorly also!
i think i figured out that the soil i bought just plain sucks - it has too much sand in it and it doesnt hold the moisture at all.
i think we are in the same boat and i'm with you - much more compost next year!
you're not suggesting i put down the chocolate cake are you?
hee hee hee
but "every body loves a 3 bean salad" just isnt as funny.. hee hee hee
but you totally inspired me and we had fresh green beans tonite. with bacon (ours) of course!
whooot! i love summer food!!!
hee hee hee the benefit for guys is that it just looks like they are standin' out there for no particular reason whatsoever.. hee hee hee
in your case i'd say just send the dog out there
;-)
or find that guy who thru a rock and hit the bunny! what an arm!!!
hee hee hee
well one or two of my most reliable older hens found their way into my garden! yikes!!! but fortunately they did a good and not destructive job.
hope they got some of those darn bugs!
hee hee hee for heavens sakes, honey- what an arm! how did you manage to hit him!?
so here's what i do for the evil hopping menace that openly mocks me from just beyond our gate....
1. i went and got deer netting and put it all around my gardens - at $14 its a steal - it comes 7ft tall but i...
ah-haaa... got to love those terriers...
so you might try having your big dog mark the property line and all around where mr groundhog was been appearing.
and shhh... you can also have your husband do the same thing
;-)
just call your local stables! we got TONS and they are happy to load you right up!
we put a bunch on our 'field' which is in bad shape and the added benefit for us was that a bunch of oats and stuff came up - pasture for free!
what this means for you tho - is you have to weed like the dickens...
ughughghh!!! sorry. i keep wondering if i should let a couple of my older and more reliable hens into the garden to do a little bug picking....
and i go back and forth on the pesticides... i know that DE/borax will get a lot of crawlies... but the chemical ones work pretty well. but then i cant...
i was hoping somethign like this would work! after the 10th bucket my little arms were starting to give out. i think we have a pool pump around here somewhere.... we just have little kiddie pools for them...
cobbler ALWAYS needs ice cream!
last nite we had fresh pea risotto...and this morning i'm having fresh blueberries with my own goats milk yogurt
there just may be green beans tonite....
