Would any of the herbs I mentioned do well to spend all of their time if there is suficient light? Or I guess my question is how do I keep them growing all year long?
Got some seeds today to make my wife a little indoor herb garden that we can use as a "growing spice rack". I got basil, terragon, rosmary, parsley. Going to put them in individual pots and place them in the kitchen window and use a good potting mix that I use to start seeds with. Anything...
Can I use just brown leaves for planting potatoes and no soil? I just read up on a past thread that talked about making wire potatoe cages and some people only use hay/straw. I have a ton of leaves that I picked up in my neighborhood and could use those.
Well, I guess I will copy what you have planned to do. On your 2 liter bottles, do you just cut the bottom out of them and put them over the plant? How long do you do that, just at night and take off during day?
What date did you start your tomato's? What date are you going to set them out? I started my Beefsteak a little early on Jan 26 and they are 4" tall, think I may set them out April 1 if they will wait that long.
Never use cat, dog, or pig manure in vegetable gardens or compost piles. Parasites that may be in these types of manure are more likely to survive and infect people than those in other types of manure. It is also important to keep your pets out of your vegetable garden.
Here is where I found...
It's not about getting rich...be happy that you get to play in the dirt and sell seeds to folks that can't. Remember that it will all fade away one day. Sow seeds of love. ;)
Wow. Ok, I'll bite. It takes the same amount of work as it always has...why does it cost more? Because someone is willing to pay the price. For what it's worth, they don't pay me enough to operate an airport either.
Anybody know anything about this type corn? I picked up a 1/4 lb at the feed store the other day cause I didn't feel like paying $4.50 for G-90. I hear it is a dent corn, my main question is, can I make corn meal with it?
Thanks! I have the lsu ag center pdf and look at it pretty often. I plan on planting most everything I usually plant on 4/1/12. I may have to scrap the brocolii and cauliflower till this fall then, it's my first time growing those and I don't know much about them, other than I like to eat 'em.
Man, I haven't looked a a seed catalog in about 10 years and I did for the first time the other day and I am still trying to put my eyes back in my head, I did manage to finally get my mouth closed! Since when do seeds NEED to cost so much! So, having said that, what is a RESONABLE priced seed...
I finished my first one yesterday, made it out of pallet lumber and scrap 2X4's, It's 4X4 and 7 1/2" deep, it cost me only the 8 screws I used to put it together with. Can't wait to get some soil in it. The season extender you mentioned has me interested! Hmmm...I have some 1/2" and 1/4" PVC...
Thanks guys! I did the link to Johnny's and that is pretty neat, I used 3/30/12 as my last frost date. It's all trial and error in the end I guess, because you are dealing with something that is not set in stone and doesn't happen the same way every year...so it is fun.
I started indoors (6) of each last week: Tomato (Marglobe), Tomato (Beefsteak), cauliflower, brocolii, bell pepper and lettuce. I live in zone 8a, north Louisiana. What is the best time to start each type indoors?
