Did you find out what it was? It looks like a large dog print to me. Coyotes are generally pretty small/scraggly.
Hope everything is working out for you.
My Manchies will always be my favorite, but the Nubians were good too. I had two Saanens in the years I had goats, they produced a lot of milk, but the milk, ok-the goats too, were very bland.
I will raise goats again some day, just have to wait until we are back in a place to buy another...
Good idea, I will definitely have a dedicated fridge whenever it is I have dairy goats again. What kind do you have? I raised La Manchas and Nubians.
One year, though, one of my Nubian bucks managed to breed all but two of my La Manchas. Here are some of the kids:
Just wanted to add-they are very hardy once established. They might be considered a non-desirable berry by many, but they don't require maintenance either. No pruning, no "this year/last year cane" stuff, no fuss. And they are prolific, I mean, berries upon berries upon berries. But they...
They get big. We had red (berries turn black when ripe, but still considered red) ones when I was little. The fully ripe berries are very sweet, but the flavor is not very complex, so some people find them bland, even though they are sweet.
I would stick with the red, but that's because it's...
Yup, Mulberry. Mmmm, I love Mulberries!
When I was a kid there were three Mulberry trees, and every spring/summer we'd stuff ourselves silly. Yes, it will upset your stomach, but hey, it was worth it!
When the berries are ripe they turn all black.
Great, now I want a Mulberry tree...
:P Sounds like goats to me...
I love goats. I miss mine, can't wait until I can have some again.
We stored our milk in glass canning jars too. Maybe we just had a stinkier fridge??
I can remember when I was very young that there would always be strings of beans above the wood burning stove. It would always be in the fall and sometimes they would hang for weeks. I think the heat from the stove helped dry them?? I shelled lots of things when I was a little girl, but...
I have made the "vinegar" cheese before when I had goats. It really is super super simple, and of course, vinegar is very cheap, so it is the most economical cheese. It will be somewhat soft, and you can mix in any herbs or spices you like. You can even spin it in a blender or food processor...
Two years ago I ordered seeds from http://www.heirloomacres.net/
They test all their seeds and the germination rate is listed on each package. They do not sell any GMO seeds, and they even have an organic section. I didn't end up planting a big garden, but the seeds I did use were good. They...
I'm thinking of buying a worm factory type composter from here: http://www.unclejimswormfarm.com/index.php/Outdoor-Composters/The-Worm-Factory-360-Free-Shipping/flypage.tpl.html
But I'm trying to find out more before taking the plunge...
