I have cabbage growing and onions. It's been really cold here with night temps down in the lower 20's. I ordered a Crinum Lily and it has arrived so I need to get it in the ground soon. It's a lovely deep pink. I discovered them not long ago by buying one from our Fesert Garden plant club...
We've had a hard freeze but everything looks all right. We had winds from h____ last week and it even made the news. Some in So. CA still don't have power. We lost ours for about 3 hours and I had eggs in the incubator. I was worried for a while but two days later they started hatching and I...
I always have a knitting project going as well as a crocheting and crosstitch projects. I work on a little each day. It keeps my hands from cramping from using them in one position too long. I also quilt and do some by hand but at the moment am using the machine to quilt one for my daughters...
I've been knitting since I was a little girl, so over 60 years. I am knitting a faire islae sweater right now using one of my mothers patterns she brought from England in the 40's. I also crochet and quilt. I'm also making "preemie" hats for our group at the Masonic Lodge who donates them to...
Has anyone tried to propagate a eucalyptus? They grow so well here in the desert but are so very expensive to buy. You never see seedlings in catalogues or in nurseries.
I haven't been on here in a while. It looks kind of quiet. I planted cabbage a week ago and this morning planted tulips. I forgot I'd put them in the refrigerator in the garage. OOPS! I also planted some iris that I'd forgot also. They were still alive with green shoots coming out and they...
It's to hot to plant anything now in the high desert (100-115) but my tomatoes set fruit again which I didn't expect. One is supposed to do well in hot climates. I think it's called Solar Fire and it has the most tomatoes. I had to put bird netting over them due to a pesky mocking bird and...
It's 107 here today but the humidity is leaving. We had rain for several days which we don't usually get in the high desert in July. It gets up to 116-119 sometimes. My garden is on the dry side even with irrigation but that sun burns. I'm picking cucmbers, zucchini, summer squash, potatoes...
You're right about CA having weird weather. I'm in the high desert and we got 4 inches of snow and we've had more wind than the law alows and I hate the wind. It stayed cooler than normal for spring but the past two days it's been in the 90's. Lot's of luck with your hollyhocks. I had...
Could you be planting them too deep? Also, they might not come up until next year. I plant morning glories and they never come up the year I plant them. They come up the next year. You might also try soaking them in water or buttermilk for a while before planting. Other than that I can't...
yes, to get back to gardening.....I hilled my potatoes several weeks ago. This morning I picked one summer squash and two zucchinis and the last of the peas. I planted more radishes and fertilized my tomatoes.
No, I don't think your two children would have wanted to give you that many grandchildren but I had 7 and I remarried and my husband had 4 by another wife. Even so, 20 of them are mine. There are two greats on my hubby's side.
I posted two photos but only one shows. Click on the link at the end of the link that stats with http://www.the easy garden.com,etc. I got it to open with that. Hope it helps. If it doesn't I'll repost.
I like your name 4grandbabies. If I did that thought I'd have to say 34grandbabies. We'll be in MO the 22nd and 23rd for my granddaughters graduation from basic training with the army. She likes MO except for the tornado scares. It's greener there than it is here in CA but the past five...
I used to live near them so could drive by and see all their iris in full bloom. It was something to see. Here are some of their iris. I have about 50 of their iris.
[edited to fix links]
I saw some lovely bright red hollyhocks outside of a restaraunt and would love some. I can't find seed for just red ones. May have to get online. Mine are pale pink and pale lavender that are blooming now. I may go back to the place I saw the red ones and see if I can beg seeds.
