Well I did hack them back a bit, chopped off some of the top and leaned some over and started winding them sideways. There are hundreds of tomatoes on them, they are lovely looking.
I also hacked away at the brandywine next to it, fantastic how many tomatoes were hiding in there! I still left...
I spent the day hacking back my pumpkin vines which have taken over.
I scheduled a seed start on June 15th for Halloween pumpkins, but my friend said they'll just keep growing so I didn't need to wait so I have them in now.
Whatever you do, give them PLENTY of room to grow. I'm using garden...
Here is a photo from just over a week ago... they have now covered the lattice to the side and are folding over the top and flopping over to the back side! The lattice itself is set almost 2' off the ground.
On June 2nd I planted:
Artichoke
Celery
Purple & Green Broccoli
Cauliflower
Spinach (Malabar - Red Vine)
Red Basil
Par-Cel (celery flavored parsley type)
Calliope Eggplant
Lettuce
Carnations, Moonflowers and some Soapwart
Most have sprouted already today I noticed.. except the eggplant...
I think I might have to start cutting them off... really, it's taking over too much space. But it is a yellow pear that is the tallest one... so they are cherry like tomatoes...
Unfortunately, I'm the only vendor with any food. I don't know when that stuff comes around here season wise, but I'm sure that when it does, the vendors with food will show up. Most of them have said they won't even come around until July :(
I vote for shredding too... chocolate zucchini bread is why I put on weight each winter!! LOL
I didn't grow any zucchini because we don't normally eat it other than in quick breads..... maybe I should buy a plant from one of my fellow vendors... or... would anyone like to trade a few zucchini...
Thanks everyone for the advice. They are now 6' tall and taking over, I can hardly get to my sink now!!!
I sure wish I could make them ripen some tomatoes... I hate going to market each week without any tomatoes!!
I don't know how to price things yet, I'm still winging it.
My young onions are selling for .25 each or 4 for $1
Our market has almost NO traffic yet.. but it takes time to build a following and each season it has more and more potential!
:D
I am almost done picking for the Farmer's Market tomorrow...I'm adding
4.5 lbs of Stringless Green Beans
1lb of strawberries
another bunch of Green Onions
12 pumpkin squash blossoms ... I'm going to try and sell them for $0.25 each like my baby carrots.
and another dozen baby carrots
1lb...
So, two of my tomato plants, a yellow pear and a pink brandywine are now more than 5 foot tall. I have forced them into this wooden trellis as they grew, it's beautiful and totally full and now they are standing above the trellis. They have small fruits and look great. I've babied these with...
We planted several variety of "baby spinach" and we planted a row of vital green to be used as baby spinach. We much preferred the taste, crunch, shape & color of the Vital Green when picked as small "baby" leaves. In fact... we harvested from Mid March until 5 days ago when I pulled them...
I'll be buying some type of Russian Garlic this fall from one of the fellow growers at our Farmer's Market. I absolutely love when I can buy something that grows well locally for sure!
Hi everyone, I appreciate your clicking here to read.
I have a lovely rosemary bush.. I've had this thing for I'd say maybe 7 years or more. It used to live in a pot because I didn't own a home, it was in fact the only plant I had. It's lived in TN, FL, back to TN, back to FL and finally...
So today I was picking up some feed at the feed store :) and my most awesome feed store lady offered me some of her really-starting-to-look-sad-seedlings that should have been planted last week!
Some are better than others, I picked the best ones out and I think they'll do fine! So now I am...
"they" said that this little cutie I picked is bitter free... I saw on the victory garden the other day the guy likes to cook with the white ones because they are less bitter...
