peeps, I'm quite impressed with your little garden! It has that "cute garden" look I'm so trying to get myself. Your gate is WONDERFUL and so unique!!! Congratulations!!!
Have you used the topsey turvey buckets before? Just wonderful!
Yes that is what I read about it. I don't eat cooked spinach, and it loses its lovely red coloring when cooked too :(
Well.. if it isn't edible.. it will be a great ornamental and I'm sure the geese will LOVE it.
I've been scouting high & low for interesting things, and am so excited to have a few "weird" things growing in my garden. They are strange to me, maybe not to you, and I don't know how any of them taste yet because they are totally foreign to me, but still I'm excited.
I've recently ordered...
I don't know how to make it jam but I think cinnamon goes great with strawberries and I've seen banana jam or spread? so perhaps they can be merged? and I also think pineapples & strawberries are awesome
I had to bury one of my patches to make it right with the rest of the raised garden and...
they really are awful.. and everywhere!!! Of course they don't directly bother us... if a male starts swarming me I just douse him with my watering hose :)
will they go like this all season? or will this calm down? does anyone know?
There are holes every 6 inches in the 2X4 rafters... I'd estimate they have "bored" through 30% of the material VISIBLY... plus I know they bore a tunnel through the wood inside that I cant even see... so I'd estimate they have replaced 50% of the 2X4 rafters with air.
The 4X4 post damage...
That is what I do.. I have a trio of littler trees that are about to be cut down & the stumps used as table legs for an outdoor bar. Others used as posts... seat benches, flower pot stands. My DH gets some kind of joy at chopping some stumps apart & ripping them outta the ground... so some...
How do I know if they are heirloom or not?
I know the Brandywines & Roma are...I have some of those
I also have some
"jelly bean"
"cold set"
1 yellow pear and 1 pink lady
thats all...
3 years and then they become weakened and barely put out any berries if any. I was surprised to learn that plants have a life cycle... I thought they lived forever provided they had all they needed... I was wrong. It was time last year to bring in a new crop, so try and get some started this...
Hi KC, we're probably neighbors! As I wrote, I put out lots of plants to attract the bees this year, but they have dug holes every 6 inches in my roof rafters... a bit scary!!!
My original idea was to give them their own coop/building to nest in... so I guess that was fine thinking as it's...
Expenses/Harvest Values
$222.00/$43.00
This is still mostly lettuces, green onions & radishes!!!
I starting picking strawberries a couple of days ago and there have been many herbs but I haven't figured in those values.
My green beans have started to flower, my sunflowers are quite large...
HEY!!! Long time not type!! Been busy busy of course outside :)
I'm still only harvesting radish, mixed leaf lettuce, baby spinach and just today some arugula. Strawberries are turning red as I type this and one of my tomatoes has already begun to flower! :) Only one seed type refused to...
bid - your post made me chuckle repeatedly!!
ALL are great ideas... the wood is treated with Termin-8H20 which is supposed to deter wood boring insects  and eating insects like termites and I hoped carpenter bees, but they apparently forgot to read the literature over here too...
I understand...sorta..... my husband's lunch garden can't go out until then because it still freezes up there for another few weeks. :( It's about 3000' ASL
Well.. I could but I don't think that it would work... the only way to keep the shelter flea free would be to plant some kind of dog repellent ;) LOL :lau
Well.. all I can say is that mint grows wild around the perimeter of my home & scattered throughout the property and I love that... but I'm still dealing with tons of ants... ants live in the mint... sooooooooo... maybe not always?!!!??
Fleas.... as DH and I discussed yesterday... we don't...
If only they actually BUILT things instead of destroying them :(
I'm so torn, I wanted to find a way to discourage them, but then read that the only thing to do is kill them but I certainly DO NOT want to contribute to killing bees, that's one reason I stopped using the Carbaryl powder... the...
:weee :tools
I've made it, April 15... and so have MANY of you!! Congratulations!!!
Today I have a dozen or more plants ready to transplant to outdoor spaces from the cold frame and today is what I was waiting for! It's a good thing because my 2nd round of seedlings are starting to move...
I bought enough for a couple hundred plants this year back in FEBRUARY!!! Because they always run out so early!
