:D
Very happy with them... although it looks like without some of the mud we only weigh in at 3lbs... well.. still... awesome results for us.
We added sweet potatoes to our diet a couple years ago, other than Thanksgiving of course where I've always eaten my mom's brown sugar/butter/cinnamon...
That is the space we used.. I have to estimate it to be around 10 feet long by about 5 feet deep. We planted around 10 plants evenly spaced throughout... they took over the entire area, climbed up the fences, covered up that runner of grass.
I USED to plant here only.. but my main staples...
We did it! :D
Today we dug up 2 - 5 gallon bucket fulls of sweet potatoes.. some are in excess of 4lbs!! HUGE! It frosted a bit last night & the night before, I didn't know I should pick them before the frost.
Are they ruined? They look great!
Now what do I do with them????
I'm SO happy...
Thanks, I have an unopened pack of radish seeds I forgot all about!!! We just put down 2 lettuce varieites, cabbage, parsnips, spinach & carrots in another bed.
I am interested in year round though, what might they be good for in the other months.
I seem to be VERY dense in understanding the...
I am considering using these construction mixing tubs from Lowe's, I have a few on hand, and they must be at least 8" deep, a couple of feet long and maybe a foot & a half wide...
what might be suitable in this type of shallow rectangular container?
I'm so glad I read this thread.
We were going to do the same thing with grapes.. over the leachfield. Although we were going to plant them in 3' square above ground boxes (yes 3' tall) to avoid roots growing into the pipes..
but I NEVER considered the day those pipes would need to be dug up...
I've never planted in the fall... but TEG is really helping me extend my season!
In 2 weeks my 2nd crop of corn will be ready I think.. it's looking SO GOOD!!
Day before yesterday I planted as a test, half a row of each:
Carrots
Parsnips
Romaine
Iceburg
Spinach
and will plant those again in 2...
We harvested the black beans day before yesterday....
Here are a few photos:

I used 2 cups worth last night in some make ahead Frijoles Negros (cuban black beans) and that left about 3 cups worth which...
Thanks, I guess I'll just keep plugging along and wait for it to die off or turn yellow, which is what I was expecting.
I have yukon golds and some red potatoes too.. I hope they come out well!
My sweet potato vines are growing like crazy.. I only hope there are sweet potatoes underneath that...
the mice got to my potato bins and so we had to disassemble that.. but the 4 plants in holes in the ground that we gradually filled up as they grew are doing well.. I think. Green and happy. I figured it would be weeks more before we could even THINK about digging for potatoes
seems like...
The plants in the ground are dwarfs by comparison.. Next year i will for SURE put one pickle plant per bag and run them along all the new coops I have, I think it's working out really well for the pickles.
An Update.
3 Pickles still growing well
1 Tomatoe has started to flower
and the bell pepper looks the same in size and has 1 pepper growing.. I didn't bother to photograph it because it hasn't really changed. I don't think this method is good for bell peppers.
The pickles are going along...
That looks fantastic! Perhaps the pink duct tape was a little much.. but hey.. I'm a girl :P
SO my bags are coming along, although I think the pickles seem to be doing by far the best of the 3, but I'm a beginner so decide for yourself... Pickles are the left bag, a brandywine tomato on the...
Mine are doing great!
We started eating strawberries 4 days ago when we planted the sweet potatoes and noticed a few RED berries! They are VERY VERY YUMMY and I'm tickled to know there are no artifical chemicals to be found on them so I eat right off the plant! First time for me!!!!
Cherry...
I just wanted to give another update because I'm so suprised! The pickle plants are already three times as big as they were in the last pic and the bell pepper is forming peppers! Tomatoe is growing happily and healthy looking.
So far it's really working out nicely! I'm really impressed! I...
