Funny that you posted this!
Yesterday I was out watering and found the same thing! At first I thought I was some sort of bug larvae....upon closer inspection I realized they were corn kernels...very odd.
I would love to hear the cause, so I will be watching this thread!
I was going to suggest the opposite :)...if your lettuce is 'growing great guns' sounds to me like you may be having too cool weather for your toms to set. Plus, keep in mind that it is normal to set fruit low and keep flowering on new growth. If your peppers are not blooming, then maybe a...
Those pics are amazing!
I planted a few seeds near the corn, but apparently they are not all that happy because they are not doing squat :(
I will keep my finger crossed that mine grow up to be as nice as yours!!
Does it depend on the type of bird? I have a suet feeder hanging in my garden with the idea that it will bring bug eaters to my garden...am I foolish?
This morning I spotted a beautiful Oriole near my garden, I would like to set out a feeder for them (nectar and grape jelly) but after reading...
I have to keep a close on on some newly sprouted goodies: Purple bush beans, Swiss chard and radish. I need to make sure that they stay sufficiently moist :)
DH is going to help me put together a bit of scrap picket fence for my melons to climb around on...gotta keep them out of the bush beans...
Good feedback...I had no idea that the egg shells went to work so quickly!
Unfortunately I did not wait very long for a reply before I went to work...I took a small margarine tub and filled it with composted chicken manure, a sprinkling of organic veggie fert and some gypsum, I added this mix...
I know that adding egg shells to the garden is good in the long run but in the mean time....my Brandywines keep dropping their flowers and have only set a couple of tiny toms. I scratched in a little bone-meal 3 weeks ago and not seeing much of an improvement. The lady at the nursery suggested a...
I am just sooo pleased with my garden! Now that more and more things are ready to harvest, it is just so much fun!
Today I pulled a few little carrots, several squash, an English cuke, a couple Lemon cukes and a few cherry toms. Nothing like having your own garden!
I have a Tomatillo i my garden and it is doing ok, lots of fruit but the fruit does not seem to be growing properly...not filling out the husks as it should. Also my plant is a bit yellowy...wondering if I am not caring for it correctly. I keep the soil pretty evenly moist and the plant...
ccrecelius- I am sorry about your grandma. There are a lot of very kind and very knowledgeable people here who are always happy to help. I am glad you found this site :)
In your compost pile you want to avoid dairy, meats & oily food items. Veggie and fruit trimmings, coffee grounds, weeds (not...
Thank you all for sharing so much good information, this was an excellent thread!
Now one more question if you will indulge me :)...what should I put in my bunny litter box because it all gets composted! So if I want to minimize the use of newspaper (going into the garden in the form of...
I think tomatoes in containers can be tricky, they really need a big pot. I am sure that someone can come along and give you more specific info.
As for fertilizer, I have been using an organic fert. called Dr Earth and I have been really happy with the results. I am not really well versed in...
Here is a link...this is what we plan to build!

The bin is not under the litter pan, I believe the eating area is simply wire and the poop alone falls right thru to the bin, the rest of the cage is nicely carpeted.
I have worms, sometimes...
Really? I never knew that newspaper was potentially a bad thing!
So no newspaper in Lasagna gardening? No newspaper in compost? Specifically, I compost my bunny litter and I have two litter box choices: pulverized paper (which i am sure is news.) or hand shredded newspaper topped with hay....so...
I would Google 'hummingbird gardens'.
I have a lot of hummers around here, I put out sugar water for them ( 1 part sugar - 4 parts water. Bring water to a boil and then remove from heat and add sugar. Keep in fridge. It is only good in the feeder for 2-3 days.)
They seem to love a wide variety...
