Thank you, Hattie. I really appreciate it. I have learned so much from my grandparents. My grandma is a gardening genius and Im the only grandchild that took much interest in it, so we've grown extremely close. She is without a doubt, my best friend. And every time we talk, she teaches me...
Thank you, Beekissed. I really like your idea, I might have to try that next year. I've got a whole new garden this year (new house) so Im just doing my rows for now. I really like how you used the branches for the support though, very cool.
Natalie, I would LOVE it if I could find one that I like! I love growing them so it would be awesome if I had one I could eat. I like tomatoes in various things like salsas too, but not by themselves.
Steve, thank you for the link! I appreciate it. A red one ehh, I needed one of those. :lol...
Beekissed, your garden is gorgeous. I love how it is set up. It looks very old fashioned, it fits well with the whole setting.
Im not sure what you'd call my type of gardening! We call them ridges, haha. This is how I was taught and how I've always done it. If you scroll down to the 3rd photo...
I bought more today! My mom called and told me we were going to get plants, I was shocked!
I got a Chili Rellano pepper, a Green Verde Tomatillo(Never grown these, so why not?), A Sweet 100 tomato for my dad and a Sun Sugar because my grandma said they're amazing!
I'll be planting next...
LOL, vfem! Nope, I do not like them. Im waiting to find one I do, but I havent so far.
Setter, I also got a Brandywine in yellow last year. It was good, apparently, but had a problem with splitting.
Farmerlor, we've grown the Sun Gold before and everyone loved them. I wouldnt mind grabbing...
Everything I grow amazes my friends! Dang city folk!
I like to try new stuff every year. This year my main thing is Luffa Gourds. I bought various flowers I've never grown before, but the gourds are the big thing. My favorite thing to grow is tomatoes, and I hate them!
I did not see any browns, but now I want one!
That is exactly why I do it, vfem. I love bringing in a bowl of all different colors. Its amazing to see the different shapes, colors and hear how they taste. I dont eat them, but I sure love growing tasty ones!
Dont worry, I'm already...
Thanks folks! I saw a Black Zebra at the nursery but forgot to grab one! I figured that would get black and striped out of the way, although it looks pretty red. I know my grandma said the brandywines were delicious, I just wanna know what color it will be, lol. Shapes are a great idea too! I...
Of course not! You sound like a gardener, we're already crazy!
Sounds a lot like me. I have over 70 packets of seeds I bought this year, not including the hundred from previous years, and I have no idea where Im planting most of it!
So Folks,
I hope all is going well with your gardens, families and life in general.
I've been shopping around for tomatoes these past few weeks and I now have 9, I think.
How many colors do these things come in?!
So far I have purple, orange, yellow, white, green and pink. I have a...
Im getting ready to pull up my cool weather stuff and get my garden prepped for my warm weather crop! I have 1 squash and 1 zuchinni up today that I planted on Good Friday. Im not sure when to plant my other seeds though. According to the Almanac the 30th is a good day, but Im not sure if I need...
Thank you for explaining this in detail, Pat. I've read about it multiple times but it was just a brief section about it and my little brain just couldnt pick it up.
Same problem here, and Im not even out of my teens yet!
Probably 5-6 years ago, I did the toothpick thing, stuck it in a vase of water and it grew like crazy. I put it in a pot and the tree got about 7 ft tall, then I transplanted it and it died. I've tried at least a dozen since then...
Mine is going great! I've got about 32 potato plants going, about 100 onions, a bunch of turnips, beets, lettuce, peas, broccoli, radishes, spinach and carrots going. They're all getting pulled soon though, minus the onions, carrots and potatoes in preperation for my warmer weather crops. My...
I've got mine buried about 1-1.5 ft into the ground. I have just been filling it for a few minutes, not letting it get too high and it seems to be working. The other day I forgot about my water and it overflowed into all of my rows! I expected them to rot in the ground, but pretty much all have...
