My first goal is to did out from underneath the foot of snow that fell yesterday! LOL
(plus the 6 inches that fell 2 days ago, 4 inches that fell 3 days ago, ect.)
I won't be able to see my garden until at least the middle of March. And then plant at the end of April (very optimistic)...
I just read the U of M link and I agree that they twine around the support. It's kind of weird to see - unlike grapes or any other climber that I have.
I planted 2 plants (a male and a female) 2 years ago. They seem to grow very slowly, so I don't think I will ever get any fruit, but it's a nice small vine.
Just don't depend on it covering something rapidly.
I planted them with my blueberries, because they like acid soil too.
Although, they...
My city has the same program, but we must have more compost or fewer people that want it. You can go all summer and get compost.
Although if you go too early the compost is frozen. I've gone in June and it's still frozen. Everyone just chips chunks off and hauls them away.
The city...
I found this great blog
She explains about pruning grape vines and fruit trees and has nice pictures.
I would like to prune my vines and trees like this next year.
What I really need is a book to take out into the garden with me.
Anyone have a pruning book suggestion?
I am so jealous! I wish I could grow zone 5 plants, but sometimes even zone 4 don't survive here.
I'm 2 hours west of the cities.
Nice to meet you both! :frow
I started this thread sooooo long ago! haha
(One more off subject posting)
Hey!
You'll be here just in time for a big RAIN storm.
RAIN - in January.
Also, if you want to see a giant ice castle drive 2 hours west. There is an ice festival this next weekend in Spicer, MN. My mom is running in the frozen 5k on Sat. Last year a guy...
I think this is a great idea too. Our local community rec/ed is offering several "gardening" classes this spring. They charge $20 per person for each 2 hour class on things like composting, how to plant seeds, setting up a community plot garden (the city rents these to people), choosing plants...
Pics of the garden from the 4th. It's snowed some more and I'm sure it will continue to snow.
I took these from the deck, because I didn't feel like wading around in deep snow.
I have to vote for herbs.
Last year I wanted to buy some basil and NO ONE had any to sell. It also seemed like everyone was selling the same things. The same varieties of onions, tomatoes, peppers, everything. They also mostly had the same prices. Some sold by weight and some per item, but...
Hi Hattie! :frow Hope you are Ok with all the snow!
I feel really bad for all the people that aren't use to the low temps and snow. It must be really hard for people down south when their houses aren't built for cold weather and they don't have the equipment for snow.
It's warmed up to...
