I planted several red potato plants this year and they have flowered nice purple flowers. I mounded straw and compost(goat poo) around the plants and sprayed them with Miracle Grow once already when the first one started to flower.
I have no potatoes in the compost area that I mounded, but if I...
Yep, we have them. Used to have a lot more than we do now. I spent a lot of time pulling them up in clusters in my lawn last year grab them by the center and pull them up. I have continued spraying weed-be-gone and have succeeded in eradicating them from the lawn now. I find it funny though...
As long as you buy one that says its okay for ceramic or smooth top stoves like I did, you should not have a problem.
Again, I got mine from walmart, and it works just fine on my smooth top stove.:/

WhooHoo!!
FINALLY, I was worried about them, but after 3 weeks, they are finally above ground. I have seen that 10 of them have broken through the soil, some more than others.
I planted alot of veggies in peat pots, including corn and that didnt go well. I did the seeds and that did great...
I just bought a pressure cooker last year and a lot of them say do not use on Ceramic or glass top stoves. Same with big stock pots.
The pressure cooker I bought from Walmart it said it was safe for Ceramic or Glass top though. Granted, it doesnt hold a whole lot, but it serves the purpose.
LOL, Tutter, thats exactly what I did a few minutes ago. I just dug up one of the small ones that I did not cut, and it had about 2 inches of growth on the eyes. I guess they are growing, they just are really slow. Maybe its the variety I got. Last year I did russets or the gold ones this year...
Man, my potatoes do not seem to be growing! I planted them I think at least two weeks ago and I still see nothing coming up from the ground.
How long does it take for them to sprout? It seems It didnt take so long last year. I cut them and planted the, but some little ones were left whole. They...
Thought seeing I am new HERE, I would post a bit about me. I am also from the BYC's, known there as smoky73 aka Cara.
Anyway, married to DH for 7 years next month, and we have raised chickens (and goats lol) for about 5.
I am originally from Rhode Island, but moved here to Colorado in 91 after...
I had two cherry tomato plants last year that someone gave me, some kind of homemade hybrid, that the plant never got over a foot and a half tall. They were the cutest things too, but I had a heck of a time with those little bugs under them eating the tomatoes, I think they are called...
I guess I also need to say that I am in a very DRY part of Colorado, so, thats zone 5.
Your info is helpful for sure. I dug trenches, tossed the taters in, and covered them fully with the mulch/dirt mix. I planted them in a area that I do not normally use for gardening, just part of the...
I went back to read up on the potato topics and I know I am planting them late, but it seemed I did them last year about this time though differently than I am doing this year.
Last year I did the tire way, and we were 4 tires high. The plants died pretty quickly it seemed, and never flowered...
