I put some green beans and peas out... and got some spinach, kale, and lettuce in containers... even put in some winter wheat.... I get ambitious when planting... and sometimes I. Get lucky and it grows
Saw an idea in farmers almanac about planting taters in stacked tires... start with one buried shallow then keep piling on straw.... going to try it. Supposedly the tires hold heat and they are really easy to harvest.... just cut away the tires. Anyone ever tried this?
i have tons of greenies - but found 8 lil red cherry tomatos - i dont really remember planting any cherry tomatos but it was a long time ago so who knows
they may just be stunted big tomatos -either way - you cant beat the taste of that first one
i had a banty rooster that was a mean lil bastard - did all the tips to tame him... finally gave up because he didnt realize that the 4 yr old is above him in the pecking order.
now we have abig ol buff mutt who isthe sweetest thing - andhas never even tried to be remotely aggressive to people...
i finally just decided to be brave and let some of my chickens into the garden - was worried because it is not fenced - but they did not even try to leave - too many hopping treats
so- now i am going to be brave and try some more plants - but i am starting the beans in my window in the house -...
Yes - I am the one and only Naughty lol
My poor green beans were so beautiful - but I think the grasshoppers got most of them...
So need a Kansas opinion - or zone 6 I guess - is it too late to try to plant another batch?

I have tons of those little guys - and they are hungry!
any clue what i can do with em? i am going to p ut my chickens in a corner of the garden - but can't let them around the good stuff yet

I am in Kansas - and yes I have heard every possible wizard of oz - dorothy - toto joke there is!
am relatively new to gardening - but so far this summer i am seeing tons of squash... zukes ,... a few cukes -lots of green tomatoes
and 6 baby watermelons i am watching grow - its torture!
I have about 12 pairs of the cheap brown jersey gloves - and keep em all around the place - but usually only use em when trying thru prickly plants or pulling things
most of the time i get halfway before a chore before i remember i shouldve worn gloves
I am from BYC also - same name...
I originally wanted about 3-4 hens- now have 23birds.... BYC is a forum full of enablers
Now I see the addiction starting with gardening....
at least ya'll are a good influence
sounds like we need to do is declare that tomatoes, green beans, are weeds - if they arent' wanted they will grow like crazy - or maybe we can cross breed em with the purslane
it feels so good to finally see some of the reasons you do all the work huh?
my family is sick of "baby" veggie and fruit pics - but i love to watch em grow...
