I would LOVE a rose in my car. What a nice story.
And on that note, when I'm transporting bales of pine shavings for the chicken coop, the car smells heavenly.
Cassandra, now is a perfect time to move them. Mid-summer with hot days & nights would be the worst time. Fall is also a good time.
And even though it seems logical to fertilize things as you move them to a new location, herbs don't usually benefit from fertilizer. Especially the...
I think taking the larger outside leaves a few at a time, rather than cutting the whole thing off at the base, is what keeps the plant regenerating.
Most mesclun type varieties are meant to be cut off at the base (I think), and are done for the season then. Sow a lot of it, in that case!
Hydrangeas: to make them more blue, sprinkle granular Espoma Hollytone around the base in the spring. They like acid soil, and the more acid, the more blue (depending on hybrid of course). If you want to give it a quick hit, try water-based Miracid.
Azaleas: They are very shallow-rooted...
Cassandra, maybe you could add your gardening zone, or general location to your EasyGarden identity. That way people could recommend things better suited to your area.
Good luck with your potted maple! I found a to-die-for shaped thread-leaf maple a few years back for a potted deck tree. I was in love with it! But darned if it didn't croak the first winter (and I even kept it sheltered in our outdoor shower and wrapped in leaves and other potted trees)...
It's a wonderful thing to have tons of tomato plants. About Farmers' Markets, I think you would need to be applying for a vendor license in order to sell your produce there, and be a regular attendee.
If you go that route, early in the season you may want to market some of your young potted...
Nifty, that's either a trick photo or a genetically engineered child-like being. It's a law of nature that children do NOT eat cabbage and yucky green things, which in Brussels sprouts, are one and the same.
I Googled "dividing clematis" and found this. I hope it helps. I've never tried dividing clematis myself.
Dividing Clematis
Dividing clematis is one form of propagation of the plant. Dividing clematis consists of taking one plant that has grown well, and dividing it at the roots into two...
I do know that tulips are deer food (found out the hard way when I planted a dozen beautiful ones on my mom's grave in upstate NY). But they usually eat the whole thing.
If I were starting an herb garden from scratch, the first things I'd plant would be rosemary, thyme and chives (all come back year after year in Zone 7 or warmer), and then when it gets warmer, I'd add basil.
We have a patch of tarragon too, and we like to add it to sauces and plain rice sometimes. It does taste like licorice, and maybe for you, it's one of those things that you either love or hate, like cilantro and olives....
NewGuineaChooks, I think the essence of that rule is recommending other competing gardening forum websites, not a legitimate informational source. I think you're safe.
