What Purpose for your favorite dried bean? Soup Chili etc...?

I've just acquired several varieties of beans to grow. Typically grew up with the canned bean products so I've no clue how to best show off my dried beans in cooking dishes?? Do you all have a favorite dried bean you grow for a favorite dish? Thank you!

I made the mistake of planting all my King of the Garden Limas and all of my Scarlet Empress/Magic Runner Beans. I don't see them sprouting but I did find a swollen up Lima and it isn't soggy so hope it grows with the warmer temps! My Monte Gusto wax beans also did not sprout and I didn't dig...

    Amkuska's 2025 Garden

Try starting them in double solo drink cups 18-20 oz size. Put a piece of rock the size of a marble in the bottom cup. Cut holes in the bottom of the top cup to drain. Pepper's need 80-85 degrees to germinate in a week. May take a month at 70 degrees. I trim off the nipple barely on the pepper...

I received another box of beans... I've got a good idea now of sizes and colors. Would like HINTS from y'all on how to get the most dried beans per plant for my pole beans. Should I pick a few early season so the plant puts out more pods or should I top the vines so they put energy into...

    Bon's Garden Compound

Hubs just came in and said the turkey hen setting in the burn pit has a chick. We call turkey chicks 'poults.' I also have a hen nesting under the globe arborvitae that is about 10x10x10 round ball. Soon we should have poults a poppin. Meanwhile I'm trying to figure out the best way to get the...

I planted beans 4 days apart. The second planting did not grow. It's been a cold week now. The first planting is doing well. Hit the higher temps with that one. I'm ready to dig up the second planting and see where it's at!

The wild ones would come in but my toms won't let them. I was down to 2 hens and no tom when the neighbor's released domestics (they thought they would stay home and populate their woods) came drifting in to breed my hens. They stayed. I let my friends know they were here and I'd help get them...

    Bon's Garden Compound

Hubs said yesterday there was a turkey hen setting eggs in my strawberry patch that is blooming. Sigh. Today he said there are 3-4 chicks under her! At this point it may be too late to catch them. 2 hens are laying right outside the garden fence as well. Always fun on the farm... Hatched some...

Morning coffee...never know what's going to be in it. Hubs is an enabler. And he pours generously... First choice is our homegrown raw honey. Second choice is our homegrown maple syrup. Then we get into goodies like Irish Cream and Cinnamon Fireball for hot toddies. Guernsey cream from fresh...

What did you use for a barrier. I suppose I could use some of my deer fence netting.....??? We had a game camera up last summer and saw opossums and bunny rabbits in garden as well as a ground hog den showed up. Never saw the ground hog on camera.

    Hello from Las Vegas, NV

It sounds like you might be investing in overhead misters and shadecloth to keep the temps low enough to pollinate tomatoes and beans.... when our temps in NW Ohio get over 85, our tomatoes either drop blossoms or just sit there doing nothing until temps come down, then they set fruit. Good luck...
