    What are you canning now?

This is a copy of what I posted on my thread: Family is heading out to Billie Creek this afternoon. I will join them for a few hours tomorrow. Last evening I was tasked with: bread making--2 loaves, which tasted great when I cleaned my fingers off! corn muffin making--packaged up, and tasted...

    Ducks ALIVE in 2025!

Checked on the 2nd pepper/eggplant(s) seed starting. Seemed a bit wet, so I took off the cover. I may need to move the other peppers out of there to another heat mat/gro lamp down below on the first shelf. This is the first year I have taken seed starting seriously. My Winter Sowing jugs are...

    Tulips hate me

It looks like there wasn't good drainage. Where I grow tulips is in the beds to the N and S sides of my front walk, which descends, so there is good drainage. Even when the soil is poor they do very well. Pick a spot with better drainage. Also, they talked about planting forced tulip bulbs, IF...

    Ducks ALIVE in 2025!

DH wanted to mow with my God mower yesterday. Nice job. My 2024 Toro push/mulching mower started right up, so mowing is a go. It will be 84 degrees F tomorrow, day, and Tuesday starts up at 71 degrees F. We really are on and off summer at this point, but I think that the frosts are over. Our...

Garden Hose End Protection From Corrosion or Lime Scale

I can't leave mine on permanently only bc I use a heated water hose in the winter and that has to be directly screwed on. BUT, I can exchange other hoses during the growing season and leave the piece on for that. They were all the rage about 3 years ago, now, not so much. @Finnie you might...

    Your Weather, 2025

We are bouncing between coolish Spring and full fledged HUMID Summer. Heat is off in the house and we are opening/closing windows. Since I have a window fan unit, the type with the two small fans, I opted to close the shower curtain in front of the window--we have that AND 2 curtains in the...

Garden Hose End Protection From Corrosion or Lime Scale

It is a little bit stiff. I liked the idea of not screwing on and rescrewing hoses on and off of my faucets, which I thought might corrode or strip them.

    Concerned About Growing Old?

Sorry, don't remember the old phones. I can just tell you that the entire Chicago/suburban phone area had a "312" prefix. In the 1980's they started issuing other prefixes, but Chicago proper kept it. Dunno how long this will last with the plethora of cell phones. As an aside, a Brit mystery...

    Ducks ALIVE in 2025!

I planted literally 72 seeds in a 72 cell flat, over a gro mat, under a gro light and underneath is the lid acting as a water source bc I just keep it pretty full, and on top is a 12 inch high dome. Most have sprouted Basically I have created a greenhouse for them. Since I don't have multiple...

    A Seed Saver's Garden

Gotta admit, no bears HERE!! I am watching your seed starting. :pop You are Much more of a seed starting expert than me. It's just that normally tomatoes are so gosh darn easy, I don't worry about them. Right now I planted literally 72 seeds in a 72 cell flat, over a gro mat, under a gro...

    What are you canning now?

@Finnie , you DO KNOW that you can write on the lids with a Sharpie? I recycle metal, so I wash the lids after I remove them--we all know that they will only seal Once--and it takes scrubbing to remove the marker, so it lasts. ANYWAY VERY NICE JOB CANNING!!! :love
