    Spider Identification?

I was wondering about orb weaver as well, but I didn't get quite close enough to tell anything else about it  I guess it has moved on though, as the web was partially gone and the spider nowhere to be seen today.

    Spider Identification?

Not necessarily a pest (at least, I am unsure) but we have a new...ermm...friend that keeps building a huge ground to tree web next to our shop. Body is around the size of a 50 cent piece and appears to be camo coloring with a bit of white on the back. I did a bit of digging into spiders from...

    Weather Where You Are

Expecting alot of rain this way- we let the garden lay this year so no crops to soak up the water. Any other year we're in drought all Spring and into Summer. The ducks are quite proud of themselves to play in the mud holes though. Wild blackberries came in fast, and figs are getting ready to...

    Hummers 2019

Oh gosh @thistlebloom! We aren't going through it quite that fast, but they get so impatient with me since I have to wash them out. I can't make it to hang the feeder out without a little hummer flying to the feeder in my hand first. July is when things really pick up here, so we will see how...

    Hummers 2019

Our first hummer appeared April Fool's Day here! We're putting out now 6 cups of nectar weekly spread in 4 feeders- the amount is increasing. Nothing but Ruby-Throats coming in! Here's one of my girls waiting for a refill

@KeeperAtTheHomestead - It is beautiful to hear that they eventually took time to realize God created such wonderous things.

    God and the Garden

Dear Heavenly Father, As Spring makes its way around the bend, we pray for Your blessing upon all that we do. Lay Your guiding hand upon our families, keep us all safe and well. Help us wisely tend our livestock, and bring us good sun and rain to help our new little critters and our seeds grow...

    God and the Garden

This has to be my favorite hymn of any I've ever heard. Gardening always makes me think of my Grandmother and in turn it brings me closer to God. She was my only Christian influence growing up, and she always kept a variety of flowers and crops. I loved going out when she got older and...

    God and the Garden

But in all reality, this in itself is a thing from God. The critters we raise can turn around and help us fertilize. Everything has a purpose- even poop.

    God and the Garden

I do agree that human life in itself is a gift from God and it is so intense to think about. I do not deny the importance of God's hand in many other aspects of life. I did hope this was an appropriate thing to discuss as many of us get ready to plant those gardens and may have seeds started...

    God and the Garden

We made this sign for an upcoming arts and crafts event and I wanted to share it while bringing up a discussion if anyone would like to chime in. "FARMING keeps the family fed THE FARMER keeps the livestock fed BUT GOD keeps the soul fed" The wording just kind of came into mind a few weeks...

Picture Of The Week (POW) Information & Submissions

@thejenx - CONGRATS! That's a super pretty photo! @MFisc - I posted another of him on the page before that I believe of the hummer yawning. I have some more of that particular fella but I'd have to dig them up later :) @catjac1975 - Thank you!

Picture Of The Week (POW) Information & Submissions

Thank you @Carol Dee! @thistlebloom - Here he is later in the year, at HIS feeder! The bush I photographed him on is where he hid in ambush and waited on others to come to the feeder.

Picture Of The Week (POW) Information & Submissions

@thistlebloom - He was actually a really young male- I know he doesn't look like it! I called him "Spot" because if he would've been facing me, you could see a single shiny red dot on his throat. I can't find a forward photo of him off hand

Here is a photo from last July, just a little anticipation for hummingbirds to fly through later this year. This was "Spot" - a little male ruby-throat. Caught him mid-yawn!
