Squash. They add many shapes and colours to ones garden. And they can be eaten fresh or fried when young, then in breads, cakes, muffins, pies or just Squashed with butter! Versatile and Vivacious!;)
I'm growing Orange Sun in containers and Sweet Chocolate in the garden. I have a few Hinkelhatz and Hot Hungarian started but they are still a little smallto transplant. I plan on putting them in containers as well. I was going to plant them in the flowerbed out front, but it seems I've filled...
I just did some reading on Thrips and there are several species including Western Flower Thrips, Eastern Flower Thrips, Onion Thrips and Echinothrips? Western flower thrips spread viruses called tospoviruses, of which tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) and impatiens necrotic spot virus (INSV) are...
What Great looking gardens and gardeners in New Orleans!
Joz, sorry to hear that you're having problems with wilt. :( At least you have a plan in mind to use the tomatoes. Next year, try to space your tomatoes out more to have better air flow around them. I live in a humid area as well, and...
According to Feathersite, with all domestic breeds except Muscovies, there are two main clues. First is that, by about 10 weeks of age, the voice of the female is a loud quack, while that of the male is soft and whispery. Second, later on the males develop a curled feather (the drake feather)...
Rusty, I'd appreciate some hints on planting Horehound if you could.
Did you start it from seed? I put some in a plot at our last house and it didn't grow very well. I think the area was too shady for it or perhaps it was just too wet that year? I now have a nice sunny herb patch and might try...
Eggplant can be frozen although I find it makes it a bit limp. Still, better than wasting it. In case they all grow and you have a bumper crop, here's the ultimate eggplant recipe website ;)

You've got a cute yard. Lots of variety between the ornamental and edibles. And the ornamentals have utilitarian purposes beyond just looking pretty. I hope your new Algerian Ivy planting takes hold. And don't worry about the house looking naked for long. You had that many Morning Glories across...
Great link.
Looks like she's the woman to ask. If the concern is whether it will succumb to the summer heat, I say try it. Perhaps plant it someplace that gets a bit more shade than your garden and see if it grows. Good luck with Lovage.
Maybe I'll try growing them this year? I have seed, I just haven't had much luck with the variety. In 2009 it was sooo rainy that my garden drowned. In 2010 the squirrels ate all of my squash. I even saw one pick an Amish Pie the size of a walnut, then plant it in the lawn like an acorn...
I've started some microgreens (thick plantings of an Italian greens mix and some yellow soup peas) for eating now. We haven't been in this house long and I have yet to decide where to set up my seed starting table? Guess I better decide quickly as the time is approaching.
Some great pics of...
