    Raised bed from bricks?

I have my asparagus bed made out of the patio edgers we were given a few yrs ago & they work great!!! I did not mortar them either & no problems with bowing either. The only problem is the water sometimes runs out the sides, but otherwise a great use for them. I also have raised beds made out...

I like to weed for therapy too. Plus then I feed them to our cows & the ram to supplement the hay(less money for hay then). So therapy & frugality all in one!!

Remeber that the wall will get hot & add heat to the garden also, so make sure you do not plant heat sensitive plants right next to it.

completely new to creating my own garden...HELP!

Try adding compost, manure & a little bit of sand too. That will help improve the soil condition for you. Any livestock manure is considered great to use.

    veggies on a trellis?

The first yr I grew honeydew it grew towards the fence & climbed it without any problems at all, big melons held just fine. Muskmelon, cukes, pole beans, peas all have done well on trelis for me & save space. Not to mention keep the produce off the ground so less pest problem & cleaner when it...

advice for new gardener on which plants to plant

Can I suggest that you not go huge? If you are new to gardening it can be overwhelming to start with a huge one & if it fails then you can be so discouraged you don't want to try again. Which would be a huge shame. I have been gardening for over 20yrs in the desert(Not an easy task). Go to a...

    How do you water?

I have raised beds & then I have rows that I water in the trenches irrigation style. Here once the temps start getting higher if I keep using the sprinkler then my plants get sunburned from the water on the leaves.

    How About Carrots

I was wondering if a vinegar solution would work as well as a bleach one. We do not use any bleach in our house just vinegar. In fact we buy no chemicals for cleaning at all. I need sandy soil to grow carrots here as we have hard clay like soil here, so I grow mine in a raised bed. Haven't...

    Sticker Shock

I was at Lowes last night & seeds have gone up in price. I needed more beet seeds & noticed the price was higher than last yr. Not a lot per pkg but when you buy multiple pkgs that increase adds up quickly. There were some slots on the display that were already empty, so people are really...

    New Mexico

I haven't actually gardened up there yet(we live in the low desert right now). But when we go up there & I can see all the gardens in the yards, I have not seen any shades any where. Nor have I seen wind barriers per say but a lot of people do plant near their houses & I am assuming that is...
