I live in a zone 8/9 & we can grow grapes like crazy here. Wonder what the difference is for you? Anyhoo, melons like cantaloupe & honeydew would work, as would cukes, pole beans or sweet peas. That is if you are not looking at a one time planting.
We own 40 acres up inn the high desert of Az & we were at the local farmers market one day & I was asking all kids of questions as to what grows there & I was told everything but citrus(too cold in winter). Where our place is it is zone 7, so you should be able to grow anything where you are...
Thinning out my seedlings this week as more than one came up in a few cups(I recycled our yogurt cups to start in). And getting my broccoli, cauliflower & cabbage started this week too(inside still).
The worms eat the compost & poo them out which helps make better compost, along with the shedding of their skins too. And they also keep your compost looser in the pile so it can break down better. Any worm will work well for this, night crawlers, etc.

Yesterday I planted watermelon, cantaloupe, jack o lantern & pie pumpkins & charentais melon seeds in starter pots. They will go in the ground in a couple of weeks most likely.
Rebbetzin, they are either gophers or the desert prairie dogs & are a huge pain which ever they are!! I have to...
Even if plants are cool weather ones if the nights are still really cool it affects the growth too. Be patient as the nights warm up & you get more daylight they will do better.
