Ahhh - that makes sense. I was thinking that cross-pollination was an issue, and couldn't figure out why the cultivated blackberries I have planted right next to the raspberries wouldn't be an issue.
I have red and yellow planted together, but mine haven't borne any fruit yet.
I don't think I read where it would be a problem, but I do seem to remember reading that they shouldn't be planted within so many feet of wild blackberries.
*scratches head*
My mom has promised me some from her yard. Her bulbs belonged to my grandmother, which she dug up and took with her each time she moved somewhere new. So these same bulbs have been in our family for about 50 years - I think that's pretty cool.
I can't wait to put some of them in my yard!
I was somewhat confused on the pruning until I watched this YouTube video. My tomatoes won't be growing up a string, but I don't see why it wouldn't work for trellised tomatoes.

Welcome!
I'm sure some of our northern folks can help you out with crop selections and planting time.
My only advice is don't be afraid to fail as long as you learn something from it.
My first attempt at gardening, I planted some raised beds, filled with native dirt, which is mostly sand...
My rows (short as they are) run north/south, even though I've read that you should run them east-west so that they don't shade each other.
However, here in August, the temperatures border on Hellish so I think a bit of shade will do mine some good.
