This year my front yard is going to be ALL about the veggies and the flowers growing together. Let's see if I can pull this off and have it actually look good! :fl
Last year was my first year growing them, and that first variety was about the size of large gingeroots but a bit more knobby. This years new imports seemed to vary, but Skorospelka had a huge tuber that was round and close to the size of a baseball. I was surprised how big it was. It has red...
Could be, but all things considered it really wasn't that heavy. I think Canada is coming under some heavy scrutiny for the drugs that are crossing our border. There is a real problem with labs etc. being run here, and I think pressure is being applied from the US admin as the drugs are...
Ok - no strike yet! I got out the last parcel thank goodness. Fingers crossed that this turbulence gets squashed for good! News reports seem to suggest they'll be forced back if they try this again. 🤞
Keep wanting to post pics, but not enough energy left at the end of the day! lol (And no sun...which my device needs.)
But I'm excited enough at today's plant finds that I have enough energy to type! So...given the frosty, wet spring several of my well intentioned seed starting plans fell to...
Well, as of today I have no idea what is officially going on with the mail strike. Yesterday I saw a huge picket line of carriers on a main street, but the news is full of conflicting information. And I found mail in my box today. Looks like nobody seems to know what's going on, so I plan to...
The darn postal strike is back on. :somad Well, that's it for mailing seeds for this season. There have been a few people ordering seeds all of a sudden anticipating the shut down. One lady is driving quite a ways to get here Saturday to do a pick up at my house instead. A bean person...
Yes, tomato seedlings don't do well with too much water. It can cause stem rot or even make the growth very weak and leggy. To get those nice & sturdy, stocky seedlings you have to really keep letting soil get quite dry.
Beans in pots can be a tricky thing! Last year we had a cold spring too (less cold than this year though) and I got trapped with beans indoors under lights and they were still unhappy. They get leggy really fast when they aren't in direct sun. Everything in gardening comes down to gambling...
Got the gardens all weeded and tilled today. Feels great! Tree is finally gone & done too, yay!
Such a crazy busy time of year, never enough hours in the day! It has been fun to poke my nose in at the pop up garden centers next to the grocery stores and look at all the pretty blooms. Found...
After a few appointments cancelled due to weather, my big 60 foot tree comes down tomorrow - weather permitting. The tree cutter is going to take the top off the tree first, and then tackle the bottoms. We're paying him to both cut and remove everything which I'm thrilled about. We've taken...
First truly gorgeous day. There's hope we'll actually have a summer. 🤞
Got all the pepper transplanting FINALLY done. That's it for up size potting, thank heavens. Now is time to tackle all the seeds that need a one month start, like the corn, flowers, etc. I'm happy to be moving on from...
It's a good system you have there @Blue-Jay. I may need to do something like this if rabbits do indeed turn out to be a problem; I've had some nibbles here and there in the last year or two but never any real damage to the beans. I can only hope it stays that way. Fencing my gardens would be...
The 1st year clematis plants seem to have made it through winter too. The spot they're in doesn't get much snow, tough to survive there. Really happy they made it and they seem to be sending up new shoots at the base. I planted 3 against the house last June, two of them grew pretty tall but...
