    Ready for Self-Sufficient Gardening?

It's only paranoid if it's not the truth. ;) Ever see those YT vids where folks are acting like planet of the apes on Black Friday over towels or TVs that are on sale? Imagine those people are hungry and have kids to feed too. It's not paranoid, it's just observant of human nature and...

    Spring wants to come

We have many trees in bloom...the Bradford Pear are just stunning this year. My peach trees are in bloom but I haven't seen a single pollinator....not one yet. Daffodils are in bloom, forsythia in golden sprays of lovely and tulip and dogwood trees in splendor. My peonies have even poked...

    Ready for Self-Sufficient Gardening?

Then you also have to think about, if you are in that situation, so are millions of others.....they are hungry, lack the land, skills and tools to produce food. They will want what you have....it was thus in the Great Depression~was real common to have folks steal chickens out of coops, eggs...

    Ready for Self-Sufficient Gardening?

I think if it comes to the point where folks have to eat the majority of their intake from a garden, they are going to be WAY less picky about how they preserve the food, the taste and texture of said food, etc. Food for survival is just that....preserved any way possible for the optimum...

    How you keeping yourself busy?

I hate to paint.....I get more paint on me and other surfaces than I do the intended surface....but, it seems I'm always painting here. We've got three cans of Kilz in the pantry right now, preparing to paint the cabin ceiling this spring....was supposed to be done last fall. Don't know...

Quotes and thoughts for the day

Now, more than ever, my favorite verses are the most helpful.....words to apply and live by. Lots of ugly going on out there, but there's also a lot of kindness and things of good report going on as well. I choose to focus on that.

    Is anyone else stress gardening?

I LOVE that picture!!! My grandgirl loves to garden also and it warms my heart that she loves it naturally, like I always did. No time for stress gardening, as I've got enough work here to do in the natural to keep me busy.

I can understand that! I bought some old silver silverware back in the late 90s at a yard sale for $8...had these door knobs mixed in with.... and I'm still using it for making wind chimes, door handles, etc. My brother had a whole box of antique door knobs he gave me awhile back...some were...

Which will make you even more vulnerable to the very thing you fear. You had the right idea by avoiding them and also try to avoid antibacterial soaps, which do the same thing....kill the protective layer of oils and bacteria that reside naturally on your hands. Since they've installed...

Talk to me about "no till" gardens

I do no till, though a few times since then I've used light cultivation of the surface with a little Mantis to work in a blanket of weed seedlings or to work up some soil so I can pile it into a raised bed. It's a more sustainable way of gardening, especially if one is adding mulch materials...

Thank you! Not everyone's cup of tea....they look rather rustic, which goes with this place for sure and I love how they look. I had to search through all the stacks to get some that sort of looked the same size and such, but some I had to "design" to the right size by pulling boards off...

Slowly but surely putting free skidder pallets up around the garden....the fence there~just posts, deer netting and rabbit wire~was getting quite worn. Figured I'd reinforce it all with these 10 ft x 4 ft pallets I have in huge piles around the place since last year. Need to get them out of my...

    Back to Eden Gardening

Dig, we didn't used to be, but our climate is growing more and more southern like, with mild winters and more rain, humidity and heat in the summer months. We lived all our lives without AC but in these past few years were inclined to install them in the house, just to remain comfortable...
