This is the coolest thing! As it happens people have been bugging me to put stuff on my Christmas list and I have everything I want, so the list has been empty. I'll add this.
Come to think of it, my big happy tomatoes are on a heat mat but I don't even know if it is plugged in. If it is, I'll...
Growth on the seedlings not in the root riot cubes are positively dismal. They're 8 days old and haven't even put out true leaves yet.
The tomatoes that I started in the root riot cubes are huge and healthy. So much so, they're probably going to outgrow the tent before planting time. The...
I' m glad you're making the responsible choice. It's tough, but I think both Spot and his owners would end up suffering if he was released willy-nilly into the world.
Hi @Moon888 ! Glad you're finding my little corner interesting. I see you're from Australia. What is gardening there like?
Woke up in a hurry this morning. A juvenile raccoon was trying to raid the chicken coop. I didn't realize it until my 3 chihuahuas, who are way too small to take on a...
My brilliant mother in law brought by some insecticidal soap to try! I blasted off all the visible bugs, but I'll spray it with the soap an some neem oil for good measure and see if that kicks it.
Bugs the greenhouse again. Need oil and soap mixed with water doesn't work, but laying the plant sideways in the sink and blasting them down the drain does.
I guess it's daily water blasts until I find something that works.
Root riot cubes definitely make a difference in how fast they sprout. The first one is up today, 4 days since planting. Just one.
I'll be potting up the "Tiny tomatoes" today, and possibly planting another round of peppers.
I decided to plant an identical set of tomatoes (6 each of 4 varieties) in the same little starting pots, but this time with regular potting soil. I'm going to compare their roots in 2 weeks to the roots from the tomatoes planted in root riot cubes, to see if they really are bigger or if I'm...
I've added Sentry to the "Quiet Place" on my blog. If you like, you can light a candle for him there, and so can everyone else. I know it's a silly thing to do, but it would have made me feel better to have something like this when Rocco passed.
I used a picture with no kid in it since it's not...
Garlic has not been disturbed! I did find a spot in my frost cloth that looks like something was trying to get through it (scratch marks, oddly, not tooth marks) but the garlic is healthy and intact. I'm really happy about it.
I repotted my tomatoes and took some fun photos of the roots. I'll...
They were not. The planting guide I got with my original one said they should have their little top knot sticking up out of it.
As for hungry daughter -- she totally would too. She just today discovered green onions (we seldom serve because they are the bane of my son's existence) and she is a...
Thanks for this. I don't have voles, mice are definitely out there. They're well controlled by owls, hawks and eagles though. It may be an enterprising young mouse decided to snack on my garlics.
Went out and replanted today, covered with a frost cloth. Here's a chewed one.
