yes it will smell, and it will smell when you use it on the plants, but a mole in a barrel or half barrel of water isn't likely to be a problem other than the smell. what may help it smell less (besides what i write at the end) would be to mix some straw and some dirt in the water, that will...
and this afternoon since i could get back outside again i made more progress on getting my last bean garden weeded so perhaps i can get it planted this week depending upon what the weather and other things are up to...
i feel your pain. this place was designed as an artist studio (the room i'm in most of the time) and gallery there was no consideration for southern exposure in the northern climate or what i'd consider common sense.
then to make it worse they planted some trees which now block the morning...
we used to see bobwhites here and also the pheasants but once they started farming the field to the south of us again and also hunting reduced them to a once in a while visitor. now i don't hear them calling at all any more. i'm hoping once the field to the south of us fills in some more that...
beautiful morning for getting caught up on some weeding of pathways and gravel areas, in between rocks, bricks, pavers, etc. better to get them when they are just starting out as then i have a chance of getting the weed removed without having to actually move the rocks, etc. to get at the roots...
i think i have all the network beans up and growing. :) and then the many other beans i planted. i did not keep a list of the various out crosses i planted because there were a few dozen selections and almost none of them have even tentative names.
as usual my main bulk bean planting were...
by the picture it looks like you already have an area mostly bare of weeds. so my recommendation if you want to keep that as garden space and not lawns is to keep weeding it (a stirrup hoe or tilling) until you get the replacement plants established. it's much easier to keep an area clear than...
the tomato cages here are mainly to help keep the plants from putting all their tomatoes on the ground, we don't have the gardens mulched so if on the ground they are sitting in the dirt and it takes more time to wash them off after harvesting. it doesn't keep them all off the ground, but it helps.
edges under control vs. edges bordering grassy areas or open areas that allow weeds to invade. the edges which are near gravel or other well defined borders along cement or gravel areas will not get many weeds and then can be weeded manually quite quickly, but it does require effort to...
it is up to the queen, if you've been getting rid of her workers and disrupting them enough she may move, but more likely you may have just killed off enough of the workers that she's just started more up and they will be back once they are old enough to start foraging again.
if you'd dumped...
i use a ground pillow to kneel on or sit on, it saves the knees and legs. i don't always use it, but when i have to do a lot of close up work that will keep me around one spot for a while it's better for me.
we have a lot of weed barrier in use here too. it's not what i would want, but it is what has happened. at some future point i will probably be swearing about having to clean it up...
we just named our cell-phone. it's been a few years since we changed from the landline to this newfangled gadget (or is it a gidgit? :) )...
as Mom was talking to a few nieces this evening for a while taking some of the charge of the battery down when she plugged it back into it's little...
