We discoverd last year how frost hardy chard is and will put some effort into keeping it a bit by tossing a row cover over it once its freezing regular.
After removing the heads from those last 9 Broccoli, i pulled the stalks and every one of them looked like the first three (i showed a while back) with very little root remaining. There’s a half dozen Kale in this bed as well; which stood up to the wind ok and shows a root ball that should be...
No need, they’ll be gone by spring! In the mean time they’ll be smothered by bucket after bucket of Rabbit poop & bedding and roughly 100 2-gallon buckets on kitchen scraps.
Even these last beauties will be found in the Compost after while!
We’ve had a couple dryer days and realizing “any day now” it can turn off unpleasant; i mounted the mower and gathered the leaves! This time of year its never about the lawn but I do hold those leaves in high regard!
So, at this point i can say next year’s bin has now been Carbon-aided🙄
Another day or so and this batch of Lacto bacillus will be ready. Most of the 6 qts. will be added to the Hydroslate drum to aid the breakdown. This drum’s been continually active for the last 4-5 years and it’s a lot like pouring honey right now. Once more of the thick stuff has dissolved...
@akroberts this link should get you in the ball park? They are not an Alaskan thing due to our season and the only ones i ever grew only got as big as pencils.😳
However i’m always happy to do a little research to help someone (you) out. ‘The Spruce” has always been a good resource for me.
We...
First thing this morning i drew 8 gallons of liquid off the fish barrel and sifted out the chunks so it would pour from a metal watering can without the rose.
After diluting it 2 to 1, the Raspberries, Asparagus, Comfrey, Pea and Pumpkin pots all got a healthy dose! Then it started raining👍, so...
The strain is Red Norland and they are quite pink due to being freshly washed. Tomorrow it will be a flater red color!
The other root vegetables are ready for-their long winters nap!
About the time the Potato’s move to the cellar i’ll be hanging a couple sides of Yak from the rafters while we...
The potatoes’s were lifted today and will reside in the barn for a few days before going to the cellar. Im happy with the yield too. This is from 2ea, 12 ft. Rows. The Purple Molly’s made a good showing ensuring i’ve got plenty of seed for next year. Due to a poorer year a couple seasons ago; i...
The garbage bag held this years Comfrey and after running thru the hammer-mill if was greatly reduced. It’s back on the floor for a little further drying; inside this sink cabinet is the manifold for the floor heat and a great place to dry something quick!
Once it’s real dry i’ll bag it. If i...
This is great; im realizing that with each passing day im running out of things to talk about!😉
Today the Beets were lifted and washed and trimmed and currently in the barn for a couple day cure. They took the place of the Carrots which were bagged and moved to the refrigerator.
That big gulp i...
Today we lifted the Carrots and are very pleased with the yield, uniformity, size and quality. Since i use a dibble board to space and plant all this stuff i don't have more or less of anything but the total mass changes some depending on the year. The Bolero’s are still at the top of the leader...
