Doesn't "propagation" also describe growing a plant from seed?

    Coffee

Here's wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow gardeners! My house is still torn up from recent home repairs which are thankfully at an end. The door I kicked has been replaced, exterior light fixture also successfully replaced, and best of all the cheapo vinyl window in upstairs...

    Conjecture

I don't care; they'll always be flip-flops to me. But I'm old and stubbornly refuse to change. I refuse to call grated lemon rind "lemon zest." "Middle school" will always be junior high to me, and probably a host of other reinvented words have passed me by.

What Unexpected Garden Guest Surprised You This Week? 🌿

A subset of collies and other herding dogs have a sensitivity to ivermectin and other drugs in that same class when given over a certain dosage. This research was conducted in the 1980s when this sensitivity was discovered - it is a failing in the blood/brain barrier. You can have a collie...

What Unexpected Garden Guest Surprised You This Week? 🌿

Isn't that the way - that governments import a species expecting it will keep another species in check, the way they do in a different country, and it goes completely haywire. It's never as simple as they think! May I ask what meds you import from the US? We mostly buy de-worming and...

What Unexpected Garden Guest Surprised You This Week? 🌿

Well yours differs greatly from my woolly bear posted last month (on my purple garden hose): Supposedly the longer the red band in relation to the surrounding black bands indicates a milder winter, but your woolly bear has almost equal red to black ratio. Perhaps we're going to have a mild...

Names and Faces - Post your picture here!

The only recent photos I have of myself are these, taken with a critter cam I think. Cleaning out the garden, end of 2023 season: and a cookout with my dog Mabel 2022:

What Unexpected Garden Guest Surprised You This Week? 🌿

Roos must be your version of our deer, or do you also have deer "down under?" It must be your springtime now, headed into summer, as we are headed for winter. Time and seasonal differences between the southern and northern hemispheres and opposite sides of the globe never fail to amuse and...

    Buford T. Justice Baymule’s LGD

That is so cool! Reminds me of a story once where a man lost his arm to some equipment malfunction out in the field. He ran back to the house to call for help, and when the EMS arrived, they searched for the missing arm and found the gentleman's arm on the ground in a field behind the house...

    Scammers

Ebay could have just been doing software maintenance. That's often the case with any website that inexplicably acts squirrely. I'd try again later.

    Baymule’s Farm

That's a shame that you're being forced to bottle feed spot. It had sounded hopeful that Granny might accept him.

    Baymule’s Farm

Oh my word! I cannot imagine trying to cope with this craziness. Are these lambs Granny's first? At any rate I'm glad she seems to finally be accepting the babies as her own. What an ordeal!

    Winter reading?

I think I saw the same documentary. The part I found most interesting was parental care given by a mother tree to its offspring/seedlings, transferring nutrients to the little trees through their root systems. It explains why seedlings that spring up naturally seem to thrive better than...

    Museum of Glass

These are phenomenal. Were these pieces all made by the same artist or by different artists? The Peabody Museum of Natural History in Cambridge, MA (part of Harvard University) has (haven't been there in over 40 years but I assume the exhibit still exists) an exhibit of glass flowers. They...

    Concerned About Growing Old?

Apart from maybe David Attenborough no one my age (or older) is climbing mountains or zip lining. So among my peers, that makes getting dressed w/o losing my balance more of a noteworthy accomplishment.

    Sentry, Baymule’s Livestock Guard Dog

This is terrible news. It's so sad that he had so many bouts of illness in his young life; it just seems so unfair for such a nice dog. It does sound like there was some sort of autoimmune issue in play. RIP good dog Sentry.

I garden in MA, great to be here !!

To add to the irony, way back in 1973 when we were preparing to move to Vermont, the couple who had signed a lease to take over our Comm Ave apartment (we met them briefly) were moving there from Vermont.

    Hello from West Michigan

This photo makes your garden look like a heaven on earth. It looks beautiful even without the spectacular sunset.
