Ingenious idea for adding space to garden

If you can plant your lettuce some place in a fairly shady area it will grow all summer. I had lettuce from May thru Nov. last year. Never bought a bit in all that time! We looked at gutter today and I am not convinced it's deep enough. I may try some just as an experiment though.... :)

    HELP!! pests on my clematis!!

Here is a list of things I found but be careful because a lot of things that kill aphids will kill the lady bugs too. I like the idea of squashing some and it scaring the rest off! Aphids: For aphid control we carry: 1600 X-Clude, Diatomaceous Earth, Garden Dust Insecticide/Fungicide, Ants...

    HELP!! pests on my clematis!!

APHIDS! The lady bugs are good but that's a BAD infestation. A strong jet of water will help. Spray with a soap/oil mixture if the water alone doesn't do the job. Mix 1 tsp. insecticidal soap with 1/2 tsp. horticultural oil in 1 quart water in a spray bottle.

    Question about starting seedlings

I have been saving all kinds of take out containers that have clear lids. Even the things the rotteiserie (sp) chickens come in from the store. Plastic salad containers...everything! lol I have quite a selection with seedlings in them now. I wait till they sprout and then vent the lid a little...

Pat, Is there more than 1 variety of Nanking or is it just the one? I thought I remembered someone talking about one that had a little larger fruit.

Starting seeds on a budget, in pots?

If you are going to a local nursery for the strawberries why not ask if they have some "Recycled" potting mix you might be able to get for free or cheap. You could mix it with your other dirt to "beef it up". lol Can't hurt to ask! That long pot looks like a great lettuce pot but not a great pea...

    Nanking Cherry

Some where on here we discussed these...I was thinking about ordering some but it sounds like they are really only good for juice or jam. Too small to deal with for pies and stuff.
