I cant think of a more valuable addition to a pot of Chili than a Tomato fed Raccoon!!
Coon meat belongs in chili just like beans and the other things, it’s just that most would be repulsed about eating one.😧
Once you’ve taken that plunge you’ll think about “coon chili” every time you eat chili...
All but 4 of these are from my Celebrity. In an effort to maximize the light over the next couple weeks; several of these were picked a wee bit early to take the burden off the plant, who’s efforts can go to the remaining fruit. And, after today when we finish saucing; we can put the canner away...
@ducks4you, i have both a 13 and a 55 gallon brewer so when i set up to make tea there’s always plenty to go around.
I call the 55gal brewer “the Big Bopper” because when it’s running the rhythmic thump is easily heard in the house and it reminds me of some background music of Jerry Lee Lewis...
We also forget things and the following example is one of “short term memory” which is the good one to loose, i believe.
On August 23rd you told me your compost tea story, about leaving some straw in a bucket in the rain. That was post 927, now yesterday; post 945 is you telling me that same...
The rains are here, as predicted so after a quick stroll thru the garden gathering some Rabbit fodder i went to work on the Compost. Being completely under roof has been a valuable up-grade and except for the exertion of forking it by hand; it was a pleasant place to hang out for a couple hours...
The Chard’s fine, last year we discovered just how much frost it can stand too! Typiclly the last thing standing is Kale which (under cover) will still be there and edible into December! Previously i’d get tired of digging it out of the snow and give up on it about then.
The Chard was...
With 1.5 inches of rain predicted over the next 3 days, it seemed prudent to work the potato’s over. Each year about this time when the vines are going downhill, i clear cut everything down to just stubs. Then add some hoops and a piece of plastic over it all. The purpose is to toughen up the...
That’s too bad about the “Tepin”, it certainly wasn’t for lack of effort!! I’d guess a lack of the constant heat it enjoys in it’s homeland is to blame?
Thanks for trying!
Mean while; (for now) the greenhouse is still producing plenty, with cukes to give away. This morning i noticed a section of vine drooping from the weight, and resembling “fish on a stringer”! Not to mention a (mature) Cuke on every leaf node, this late in the season is pretty remarkable!
* on...
Last year there was a lag period between the greenhouse and the bathtub Cucumbers. It appears that wont be a problem this year. Along the way they are being foliar fed everyday with Liquid Kelp / Lacto bacillus. Im real familiar with this cuke and know what to expect and im hoping to extend...
Up here we use the bird netting (1/2 in squares) to protect Strawberry plants from the Robins. In years before all of mine was inside chain link, it would also keep Moose off the berries as well!
Years ago i went down the “vermicompost” path. Built a nice large bin 2ft wide, 2ft. Deep and 4ft. Long and populated it with worms. I soon learned how slow it was going to be so i bought a powerful blender that would pulverize any kitchen scraps. My daily input was roughly a qt. Of blended...
This morning i notice over a dozen ripe fruit on the Celebrity, which has over 4 dozen green fruit still on the vine. Early this week the red ones will get sauced / canned and after that i’ll wear folks out with the rest.
P.s dont be dismayed by the brown spots on the fruit, this is the Liquid...
This year I’m noticing numerous Comfrey volunteers coming in some odd places, obviously from seed.
They are always welcome as something I encourage and use.
