Dogs are more or less hard wired to guard things that they feel are valuable; I learned from the Voyageurs Wolf Project in Minnesota (which is awesome and I highly recommend checking out) that after a kill there are an average of 50 birds flying overhead within the hour seeking to scavenge...
I'm not surprised they booted you from the thread, the dog training world has a lot of that sort of nonsense right now, what they call FF or PP training. Classes run by those trainers often won't even allow the word 'no' to be spoken. I could say a lot more about that but won't. lol 🤐
Poor...
Dog training class last night had a particularly interesting tidbit.
My experience with the whole orbit is that, generally, the #1 cause of pet dog problems is the owners being too soft. I could write an epistle on the layers of it, but the collision of species tends to impact along that fault...
I don't think it's for lack of skill of experience @Alasgun , lol, I'd guess as you say they don't like the raised beds. Some of the newer homes around here, the ones that have almost no yard but a couple raised wooden boxes, the owners put perennials in those. Very hardy perennials. And many...
You mean your don't plan to grow them anymore and will use the beds for something else? Strawberries were one of the first things I planted when I started gardening. I don't know what variety they were, but they staged a remarkable and aggressive takeover of the entire garden space in a very...
The Dune we watched was the one that came out in 1984, directed by David Lynch. Apparently it is somewhat of a cult classic, though I found nothing entertaining about it, simply bewildering, long and bizarre. I only watched it a month ago and all I can remember is 'the spice the spice'.
Flight of the Navigator! I love that one, we have a copy. And we have ET and Short Circuit too which I agree are also good and family friendly. We watch Goonies on rotation too. Galaxy Quest! I actually have that one and its still in the wrapper, I was a bit worried not knowing anything...
That is so great @Blue-Jay, you have introduced to the world so many wonderful bean varieties. I'm glad that you feel the happiness you've brought to other bean lovers. 💚 💚 💚
I DM'ed you the info.
You have never cluttered up my stuff @Alasgun :hugs
I appreciate the amazing depth of knowledge you have about organic amendments. I hope I can level up to that some day!
After obedience class on Tuesday I asked about the prognosis of the dog attack victim. The good news was she's back home from the US, but the bad news is it looks like her right arm will only be cosmetic. May never be functional again, just too much damage. But her gofundme has covered most...
@Alasgun do you grow any sweet peppers? The amendments that you suggested a few years ago have really been a boon for my in ground pepper plants. I've honestly found that fish bone meal, alfalfa, kelp, azomite and also epsom salts has made a huge difference in my pepper success. Some of the...
What a winter, coldest and snowiest I can remember in a long while. Gonna be -33C/ -27F tonight and tomorrow night. There has been a lot of -30ish weather. Thank heavens we have space on both sides of the driveway for the snow, because I can see the spark of snow wars in the distance with...
I would love to hear more movie recommendations! I really struggle to find family friendly stuff, most of what's out there is not my cup of tea and I wouldn't want the kids to see it. I have researched quite a bit on family friendly movie sites, and even those ratings are not totally reliable.
Did my first round of sifting through the 'yet to be grown' seed packet box tonight.
What a backlog, tomatoes in particular. Sorta thrilling though. Creating a line up of varieties to grow is one of the most fun parts of the season.
:love
Will a bulbil develop scapes the first year its planted? I would have thought they're too tiny? When I did do garlic years ago I planted cloves not bulbils so I have no idea what bulbils will do.
I guess I could do bulbils, those would be do-able in early February. They'd basically be like seeds in packets; I actually ordered a few rare varieties of garlic bulbils this winter. I'm quite excited to try them, been a long while since I grew garlic. These of course will take a few years...
Seedy Sunday was an absolute blast, the most wonderful one I've ever done. They expanded the physical area to include a large adjoining space (the cafeteria, it was in a college) and that really helped to prevent the terrible congestion of foot traffic we had last year. Tons of people...
