I know Sand Hill has the golden bantam ... but it hasn't made my short list ... because I picked out really short maturity varieties, but I'll take a second look at it.

I'm moving the sibe this spring and planting the garden right beside his toilet area (not in it though). Maybe I'll let him go around the garden plot after it's tilled!

Well, I might just leave the manure at the barn and let my trainer use it in the pasture like she does. I plan on using black plastic as a "mulch" Will that decrease the chances of weeds germinating, if I leave it there to "bake" the soil before I plant anything?

lol ... spearmint! Not really - but my bed with my rose in it has a rose, a few columbine, a few iris, a few daffodils and a S(*^load of mint. And I knew better when I planted it! Anyone near West Virginia need some spearmint? Only plant it in a raised bed by itself and kill all the runners...

I'm going to get at least a bin to help contain the new pile this summer. I haven't been real technical with it yet, so I have no idea what temps it gets too. Maybe I should be more technical about it this summer with the new bin!

Are there any crops that you shouldn't use pine needles as mulch with? My father has 7-9 pine trees, so I've definitely got access to the pine needles, unless he uses them all for his garden once I give him this idea!
