My neighbor was growing heirlooms from seed last year, and she gave me a Bloody Butcher seedling. I had never heard of them, and felt so funny planting it within sight of our new young sweet chickens. (Can't remember how they turned out.)

I'm glad someone brought this up. Last summer I was tempted to feed hornworms to the chickens, but hornworms look so nasty and juicy that I was afraid I'd lose my cookies if I watched the chickens rip 'em apart. It must be mega gross.

I've always thought this was a good program. Our local foodbank only takes non-perishables, which my husband and I contribute to through our church's food baskets. Our nearest large town (where most of the outreach programs are) is 45 minutes away.
