The swiss chard does look good. Is it similar to other greens such as spinach in taste? We pulled a few early potatoes last night and my wife roasted them, just had some for lunch. :)

I prefer Blue Lake in the bush bean variety. I am trying Rattlesnake pole beans this year as well. I have no luck with carrots either, the little seedlings never make it very far at my house. I have a 3 X 6 carrot patch with only 8 - 10 plants because I gave up reseeding them.:rolleyes:

Planted some heirloom tomatoes I started from seed last night. The varieties were 2 marglobe, 2 oxheart, 1 brandywine and 1 mortgage lifter. I hope to plant more bush beans this weekend.

I ran into the same issue and couldn't afford cages so I did the same thing. I purchased 8 2"X2"s and need to purchase more, but they work great.

Can someone tell me the best way to seed and grow carrots. I have trouble getting the plants to survive after they come up from seed. I check my garden and my little carrots come up, when I check back in a few days only a few seem to survive. I went through this last year and had to re-seed...

Mine are flowering here in South Carolina, getting plenty of rain this year which has helped. Looking forward to some earlies, pulled back some of the mulch and and my red potatoes are about the size of a golf ball.:cool:

I think it mean crinkled leafs instead of smooth. At least with cabbage that seems to be the case. :)
