Definately! Our Americaunas got out the other day, and headed straight for the garden. They ate some of my baby cucumbers and the corn that was sprouting, and they dug up one of my clematis vines. Silly girls!

This weekend, we transplanted our remaining tomatoes and peppers, loofahs, peppermint, lavender, and many more herbs. The kids planted thier own little plots this weekend as well, including some carrots, flowers, and milkweed to attract some monarchs.

Woah, this picture made me dizzy at first. I had to orient myself. What a neat idea though!

Very nice! Looks like things are growing well down in Texas. We have just transplanted from the greenhouse, so I will have to post some pics later this month.

Would it be possible to lay down layers of newspaper or cardboard, with the manure on top, rather than the other way around?

Thanks lesa, my husband is very handy. That picture is of last year's melons. We started these melons from seed in the greenhouse and moved them to the trellis box once they were big enough to be transplanted. That picture was taken in August I think, so the melons were about halfway there.

We've always struggled to grow watermelons up north here, since our growing season isn't always long enough for the melons to mature. Last year, my husband build a portable planter w/ trellis for the "sugar baby" melons we wanted to grow. This way, we can start them in the greenhouse, move...

I started making my own soap last year, and now I'm hooked. It's so much fun! I would recommend going to your local library and checking out some books on soapmaking.

I am very happy to finally get some of my plants out of the greenhouse and into the garden. Over the weekend, we planted: Blackbeans Tongue of Fire Beans Cucumbers Peas Tomatoes (including yellow pear tomatoes, a first for me) Onions Potatoes Corn (including popcorn!)

I saw tons of these flowers when we went hiking this weekend, but I don't know what they are. Do they look familiar to anyone? We were in a mostly deciduous forest in central Wisconsin.

We tried growing our cucumbers up a trellis last year, and we had a heck of a time getting them to stay on there. They went everywhere but where we wanted them to--which including growing over to our catnip cage and attaching itself to the chicken wire we had on it. :P So, I think we'll try...

Carrots: We will normally soak our carrot seeds in a little warm water over night before planting them. The next day, I carefully pour it through a paper towel to catch the seeds. Then I pat them dry, and mix them with some dry, fine sand. Make sure the soil is loose, deep, and rock-free...
