oh bye the way I am moving them when I put them in a container. I got the pair planted but only one is happy. I think cause it gets more sun. The other one is not nearly half as big and is sulky. They are planted in the same bed the same soil. The only difference I can tell is the sun.

I grew up in SoCal and grew up eating chayote. So when I moved to Louisiana I was amazed that they are called miritons here. Anyway they grow well here and I need to hurry up and plant some. I am just waiting to find a see source.

I bought a milkweed plant (or I bought a butterfly weed and they look similar). they propagate real easy and now I have like 8+ extra plants that I plan on planting this fall.

I had sprouting issues with peas and lettuce. I planted a whole packet and get like five. Which is highly unusual and the lettuce is a whole nother thing. It just seems doesn't to germinate. The carrots I always have a problem problem with. So I have no answers but tons of sympathy!

I have never tried to saved seed. Well I take that back I think and half way attempt it but never do. I have some tithonia that I really want to try and save this year as it is such a pretty plant and low mantance. I am thinking of saving seed from what I thought was a serrano pepper. But...

Yum manteca. I save all my pork fat cause pork fat is good fat. And I use it (mostly bacon) to flavor anything. I tsp on bacon fat is only 3 weight watcher points. So it is something I can have for flavor.

LadyHawke, You must be in Ventura, Camarillo, or Carpenteria. I went to UCSB and loved loved it there. I also have cousins in Camarillo. How lucky you are to live in such a gorgeous climate!
