We are getting sustained winds of 25-30 mph and gusts up to 60 mph!! I never remember winds like we have had the last couple of years! Thankfuully my tulips aren't up yet. Only the little mini ones that aren't much bigger than my crocus' and the wind shouldn't do those much damage.

Since my master gardener classes are thru Penn State I've gotten a lot more tuned in to everything they and Cornell Univ. have to offer on-line as well. A HUGE amount of quality info.

People tend to forget ,or maybe never know, what a great resource they have at their county Co-operative Extension. Our local garden hotline gets as many as 200 calls a week during growing season!

My Mom always had flower planters made from tires and painted pastel colors. You could make your strawberry planters very attractive!

My cabbage and broccoli are doing the same thing. I am trying to give them more light and have been setting them out on our nicer days to help harden them up . I am in zone 5b here in central Pa. and i think you are probably close to that same zone. We don't do corn till at least the end of may.

In Square Ft. Gardening Mel B. says the stems will get larger because of the weight and be able to hold the fruit on a trellis. My concern with the upside down method is that the weight will pull the roots out of the pot.

Hmmm...my strawberries are here but I thought they shouldn't go in till the end of April...

It's not reccommended that you pre sprout corn anyway.

No mowing yet this year and the ones that were clipped off were mixed in with ones that were fine.

They were clipped off right at ground level. Just like you did it with a pair of scissord and 2 or 3 bulbs had been pulled out of the ground. All I can picture is Chip and Dale from the old cartoons over there having a party in my tulips! :ep

This week in gardening class we talked about blueberries. :) They do well in raised beds because it gives them good drainage. They need good irrigation and soil Ph around 4.2 - 4.5. You can use sulpher to lower the Ph but you need to know what it is first so you need a soil test. Probably best...

My peas are planted next to the chain link fence and ny beans will go along the front of that fence. Fences are great trellis. lol

What will you attach this "hammock" on to?

AAARRRGGHHH! You jinxed me! lol I went over to do some pruning in the cemetery today and at the entrance all my little crocus and mini tulips are coming up so pretty...then when I wnt over to trim the ornamental grass back...YIKE! Bulbs were laying on top of the ground and greens were snipped...

It was beautiful here today so I took some of my seedlings outside for a couple of hours today to begin hardening them off. I need to get the cabbage, broccoli, etc. ready to be planted outside. :thumbsup

I have heard that people put dog hair around plants to discourage rodents. I've never tried it although God knows I have enough dog hair! lol Also you can buy sprays of coyote urine at hunting stores that I would think might work. :ep The only repellant I have ever tried is dried blood for...
