Hi lesa,:) I've never used saw dust....I do use Pine shavings...the ones used for livestock bedding. As long as the saw dust is dry and not from a Walnut tree....you should be fine. I wash the tubers off...freeing them from extra dirt and no bugs/worms are hiding in the nooks and...

Thanks...the variety is called: "Purple Taiheijo". The blooms can get quite large.... There is a varigated variety of this called: "Taiheijo"....a Lavender variety called: "Lavender Ruffles"...and a White variety called: "Iceberg"....all variations from the "mother" variety..... It does...

I store my Dahlia tubers about the same way Steve does...except I put my tubers in large fiberglass totes filled with pine shavings all around the tubers. Each tuber or clump of tubers is labeled....and they all go down into my root cellar where the temperature stays about 45 degrees...unless...

Wow.....That's good that some came up from last year......I would have thought they would have all froze...... I would ONLY leave tubers in the ground that you can afford to lose if they DO freeze..... I never take the chance.... Post some photos if you have any..... I'm going to start...

Glad to help.....it's too bad about "Connell's".....I used to get tubers from them...very nice company..... If you have any extra "Lady Darlenes" to sell next Spring...I'd love to buy one......I've liked that variety and just never purchased any.....keep me posted! Rusty

lesa......I wait 'til the first "HARD" frost when the plants turn a greasy black banana peal black.... and then wait for a couple of days and carefully dig up the tubers not to disturb or break them from their main stocks....then I hose them off...let them dry....and store them.

We've had a pretty good frost....after the next "Hard" frost....I'm going to start digging Dahlia tubers.....what a job....I hope everyone else had a long enough season to enjoy their dahlias..... "Til next Spring! Rusty
