well that explains why I have never had a cross pollination problem. LOL Guess in all my checking to see how far plants need to planted apart to avoid it, I should have checked 1st to see if it was even possible between those particular plants. Thanks kellygirrl

yep - 20 ft. seems to be working for me so far to avoid cross pollination. It sure sounds better than having to lease. LOL

I have done a little leg work this morning checking on the cross pollination issues. Everything I read says 1000 ft to 1/4 mile apart. I use my loofas for my own personal use and give them to anyone who wants one. Most just look good hanging on the vine and go to the garbage before the seed...

smom1976 - do an internet search for loofa soap. There are tons of instructions out there for different processes. Most of what I have looked at have been melt and pour but there are probably some cold process instructions as well.

Watch those seeds close. They will probably sprout quicker than that. As soon as they break ground be sure to give them air or they will get leggy and/or mold. Both of which can kill them. Picture the sad face of someone who used that method for the first time and killed all her seedlings...

Cheryl, We have had loofa for years - so many years in fact that they pop up all over our yard. For the last several years we have let them grow about 20 ft from our squash, cucumbers and zucks. Never had a problem with cross pollination at that distance. I have no clue what the professional...

I only plant one kind of green bean. Blue Lake bush bean. In my area they grow wonderfully, and the finished canned product is great.

I have never grown that particular varitity but I just shell, and freeze my peas and beans. I do vaccum seal them though. I wash them before I use them but not before I freeze them. On the rare occasion I do wash before freezing I make sure that I get as much water as I can off of them...
