    Plants for cut flowers

One of my favorite cut flowers is Cosmos. It's hard to get long stems and they don't last overly long, but I still love them! I've been known to make bouquets of anything I can cut that looks nice. Right before my Grandma C died I took her a bouquet that was mostly pretty weeds. It was April...

    Gardening magazine?

Organic Gardening is the best I've read-the others seem geared to more professional, elite gardeners. And I second the notion about Mother Earth and Countryside, especially if you're into preserving your harvest.

    Neighborhood Kids

Wow, that is so cool of you to do all that for those neighbor kids!! :) I'm sure they'll remember your kind actions the rest of their lives...and maybe your actions will motivate them to have gardens and chickens of their own someday :)

What Are You Planting Today, This Week, This Month?

Today Dad and I planted marigolds, zinnias, cosmos, and bachelor's buttons in the garden and I planted nasturtiums around the well pipe. Dad also planted an upside down tomato with two verbena plants on top. Last Saturday Dad planted tomatoes, bell peppers, corn, beans, and cucumbers while I...

What came first -- the chicken or the garden?

Hmm...My family has always had some form of a garden, but I don't remember taking much interest in it until just after we got chickens.

    Growing Potatoes

We grow our potatoes in raised beds where the dirt is mostly composted cow manure from our neighbor's cows. Raising potatoes in raised beds is SO much easier than in our clay soil. The potatoes are easy to dig, and weeding is a snap. The only problems we've had is with the potato bugs-and even...

    Processing Peppers

Wow, I didn't know that you could freeze stuffed peppers! Thanks for sharing. Dad and I LOVE stuffed peppers-Mom likes them too but hates making them-I think I'll try making them this year so she doesn't have to do it :) We freeze or dry the peppers we don't eat or give away. Frozen or dried...

Indiana Native Plant and Wildflower Society--SALE!

If it wasn't in Indy I'd be interested. But with the price of gas....just not worth it with other plant sales coming up that are much closer.

Anyone in RI want tall phlox, day lilies, irises or black raspberries?

Too bad you don't live closer to NE IN-I'm sure my parents would gladly take some of your black raspberries. Dad loves them, and we tried to start some years ago, but they all died :(

    Pine needle tea?

I tried white pine needle tea at an edible plants class I attended in August. If I liked hot drinks, it would've been good. I forget exactly how the teacher made it, but I could give you the contact info for the organization that held the class and I know they'd be happy to share how to make the...
