Hi, I planted 2 young sugar maples 3 yrs ago. They are growing nicely but have developed what looks like moss or lichen all over the trunk bark. The moss is covering almost all of the bark. Will this hurt the trees? If so, is there anything I can do to clean it off. The mature trees, maples and...
I don't know what variety of grape tomatoes I have this yr but they are teardrop shaped, delicious and sweet. I have millions of them BUT~ they are all splitting as soon as they start to ripen?? Anything I can do to prevent this?? If the problem is too much water, can't control the rain!
Dumb question of the day~ Can all my garden weeds go in the compost pile or will that make the compost really sprout weeds next spring when I use it in the veg garden?? thanks
Hi all, I spotted a beautiful tree in a yard where my son was doing construction work last week. I found out it is a Korean Dogwood, beautiful in bloom right now, very interesting bark also. I want to get one for my yard. I have some kind of wild dogwoods in my yard now. My zone is right...

Hi, time to begin hilling the potato plants. Does anyone have a suggestion of what to use other than straight soil? Straw, hay, peatmoss, etc?? We usually have trouble finding enough garden soil to continue to "hill" all summer. thanks

First time on this site~ This year was our first try at potatoes. We live in upstate NY(near Lake George) Some of our white potatoes were great, others had grooves all over them that looked like valleys, smooth, long grooves going in all directions. Any help or advice appreciated. First...
I live in Upstate NY and of course the deer are always a problem to my flowering plants. I've heard about putting soap bars around the plants to deter the deer. Will the soap that washes into the ground effect the plants? Its so disapointing when waiting for a particular bloom to find it gone...
Yikes, We planted the whole corn garden 16 days ago. Weather and rain have been good although a little cool for this time of year(1 hr north of Albany, NY). The corn has a strange problem. It seems that when it came up and was about 1 inch tall it just died, fell right over at the soil line...
