I have two silkie hens that have pretty posh garden compound that I have built for them. With the small space that I have, I am trying to utilize it all. I have built a planter box and placed it above ground waist high. Very easy to get to and too high for my little silkies to get into...
Mary,
I know exactly what you mean. I got my chickens, I am composting, I dabble at gardening, and my family think I've lost it, but I don't care, it's fun and relaxing.
As far as worth it..I think it takes awhile. I just have a small compost. But I did transplant some worms into the chickens...
Thanks! It is kind of funny that one would get so excited about worms, but indeed they are a great addition to the backyard "pets". I need to empty my compost out soon and start a fresh batch. They are one of the easiest things to take care of and yes indeed they do produce a great amount of...
I need to get my personal page created and post some pictures. I had a canopy supported by PVC in an arch and had it covered with wire netting and a sun shade, but I didn't really like it completely so I made a canopy out of used 2X4's and made it more like what I would consider an arbor. I...
That is so true Joe. If everyone would choose to have more fun even with the simplest things we all would be much more happier. Doing random things like you did and the fun that we had following the thread, brought some fun to to the whole thing. I ought to share how my "Sam the Yam" came about...
I really like what you have done. It makes it look very nice and inviting to be in your yard.
This is my chicken coop compound and I have built a wooden arbor over it and I would like to start growing some flowering vines to grow up it. Thanks for your pictures.
This is what it looked like...
Well I guess Ron and the rest of us will have to wait another day for the mystery gift from the swamps of Florida. Joe is probably being held hostage somewhere out there and is sending messages from his satelite mini lap top and pretty soon he will request for a rescue party. But knowing ole...
Injunjoe, you are like an Indiana Jones guy. Just full of adventure and all. I'll bet those alligators see you coming and they get out of your way!
Be safe!
Tonight I was at some friends home for dinner and visiting and I was telling them about my worms and composting. One of them, a lady, asked about the worm droppings and if that was what would be in the compost that would eventually go into the garden. She turned up her nose as if that was gross...
How about building a nice arbor out of redwood or cedar and putting a sunshade over it or as the others have done plant grapes, cats claw, or other vines that would serve as shade and security.
