    Turnips...how to grow?

Don't worry about frost with your greens. They grow better and taste better after a frost.

a mere shadow of my former self ;)

I've lost the same 25 lbs. at least 5 times. It always comes back with friends. This trip to the Dr. I weighed a bunch (make that a big bunch)! More than I've ever weighed. I've got to get it off, I feel terrible. This summer was just to hot to move, much less to walk a couple of miles -...

Guess the flower, then I'll pick your brain! LOL

We planted the red last year and saved some for seeds. They didn't come up. Plan on harvesting the okra pods every other day or they'll grow huge and are not good. As you harvest the pod, cut off the leave under that pod. This will keep from scratching you so much, makes the plant grow...

It kind of looks like a strawberry.... ???

Those things run rampant through my flower beds. We call them wild strawberries and always heard they were poisonous. Guess not!

    Silly pickle question

My cukes have just started producing (yeah, we got a late start - long story), but my squash is coming on like gangbusters. So all that I don't sell at the 2 farmers' markets, come back home and are becoming squash pickles (which I can sell at one the the markets). They are turning out...

    Tater Tower's Done

Our taters were terrible this year (except for the Red Pontiacs). Hubby had to buy the Kennebecs and Yukon Golds from another source and when they came up, they grew very tall stems and the leaves all curled up (looked like alien plants). He pulled a couple of them up and took them to several...

    Garlic scapes?

You can put the flower bulblet in soups or stews along with the stem and even the leaves. I'd take it out before eating, though. The entire plant is edible. We sell scapes at farmers' market.

    What is this?

Well, I'm doing a scientific experiment. After several days in my quart jar with the lid tilted to allow some air, the beastie built a web of sorts and wrapped himself in it. We'll see what pops out!

    What is this?

Well, I trapped it in a jar with some grass stems until someone tells me it will eat other bugs, in which case I will let it go at the edge of the woods - or, if it indeed very poisonous, I will stomp it's yellow gooey guts out (with shoes on, of course - preferably my work boots!)

    What is this?

I know - it's a shame. If it wasn't so ugly, it would be pretty. :sick

    My harvest

We're just now starting to get squash - some zukes are ready to pick. My tomatoes are coming on, but no color yet. I was able to pick a green bell pepper to take to the market today (yes, only 1) but I'll have more next week. We took onions, new potatoes, some small carrots, cabbages, beets...

    What is this?

Found this thing walking on a flower pot today. I have never seen one of these. Bright yellow - red head with long feathery antenna looking objects coming out of it's head. Bright yellow bumpy things (4 of them) on it's back but it didn't look like eggs. Eeks!

Any suggestions on keeping raccoons out of sweetcorn?

We trap them, then carry them down to a wildlife refuge area and let them go (I know - they just find their way back). But they're well fed before we dump them - trap's baited with vanilla wafers and peanut butter. :lau

I'm from BYC too! I started reading these posts to see who all I recognized, then I forgot to look at the names, so now I have to start over. :he (See why I have to have the same name on all the forums - I can't remember who I am much less who you are). :hide So - a big howdy :frow from...
