Thank you! My basil is about twice the size now! It's very exciting but now it's starting to wilt and die :( and I can't figure out why. In the next few days, I will probably end up taking some samples back to the nursery I bought it from because 99% of the leaves are wilting, which makes me sad...
I don't know about types of blackberries, but I've been growing blueberries this past summer (very similar to raspberries in the way they grow) and they've been doing well (I also am from L.A.) so you'll probably do okay growing them where you're at. Good luck with your garden :D
I'd suggest not enough nutrients but you said you adjusted your soil. Perhaps you just got a bad plant that didn't wanna take off... :/ Good luck with your next garden though.. :watering
I'm a newbie too but we're growing squash in our garden right now (it's usually pretty warm in my area) and it seems to really be doing great. But you gotta watch out with squash - those vines love to go all over the place and take over! Very beautiful, though :D

Do you think a time released stake would work ok? I know that my annuals don't necessarily NEED fertilizer, but since it's only got one growing season I want to make the best of it.

Any suggestions for fertilizer? I'm thinking that perhaps my basil is taking all the nutrients out of the soil and I'd like to encourage my sage to grow more.
