Sunday morning! Woke up at 2AM. It started pouring buckets of rain, thunder, lightning and wind. Stopped at 6AM, started back up 30 minutes later. Still raining, but not hard rain. That means I go slop around in the rain and mud to do chores this morning. I get to see if my latest building...

Thursday morning DGD3 woke up with red itchy eyes. This necessitated a picture to Mom. Mom responded to go buy some eyedrops. Ok, trip to Lufkin, 25 miles away Got the eye drops and came back. At the first creek crossing on my road is a lot of Wisteria that has gone wild. The girls wanted to...

The next day we sorted sheep and put the big fat pregnant girls in the front field. Sheba is their guardian. To help Sheba make the move, I only put her in at night. During the day she goes back to the middle field with the boys. I feed them in the evening then Sheba “goes to work” on night...

    Baymule’s Farm

That was a fine start on a Monday morning. We went outside to get some work done. I needed to get a pen built around the hoop shelter I built. Had 2 cow panels and roll end scraps of sheep and goat wire. They learned the fine art of zip ties, pulling tight with pliers and cutting off the tail...

My DD and family came in Saturday night. Son in law put up the last 2 ceiling fans Sunday. I finally have a fan in my bedroom. We had a nice, if short visit and they left at noon. I have the 2 youngest for the week. Monday we went to the grocery store, then to son’s house and got 4 boxes of BJs...

Mary, don’t cut the bottom. Get short pieces of rebar, maybe 3 feet, pound in 1 1/2 feet, then there won’t be a big piece sticking up to be ugly. Wire them to the cow panel. Hog panels are only 34” tall and might be a better option.

    Sentry, Baymule’s Livestock Guard Dog

Yes, a coral snake. If Sentry had gotten bit, it would have killed him. I watched my female Great Pyrenees, Paris kill copperheads. She circled them, making them strike at her, then she grabbed the snake, shaking it HARD, and slinging it. She literally bit and shook them to pieces. I called it...

    Sentry, Baymule’s Livestock Guard Dog

Had a little excitement this morning. I put Sentry with ewes and lambs in front field. I was walking and looking at future barn site. Sentry “had” something. I went to look, expecting to find a crawdad. Whatever it was, it was gone. So I told him to “get it” and “where is it?” He found it...

    Baymule’s Farm

I forgot to post about my DIRT!!!! What excitement! In my whirlwind of activities I totally forgot. Last Friday I got 2 loads of select fill dirt, 15 yards each. Cost $350 for both. Last Saturday I played in the dirt with Marigold. Had a blast! I spread one pile on the site of the future barn...

    Baymule’s Farm

I’m getting my 2 young granddaughters Saturday. It’s clean house day today. Then play with them all week and give them back to parents next weekend. The following week I’m headed to the back field with battery chainsaw and sharpened machetes. My goal is to clean the north fence line in 2 weeks.

    Baymule’s Farm

Sunday afternoon I put up cow panel hoops. I drove 2 T-posts, then picked up other end of cow panel and bowed it up. Then while holding it in place, grabbed T-post and driver, got post started and slammed driver down on post about 30-40 times. That dirt I spread and packed down set up and got...

    Baymule’s Farm

Sunday afternoon I put up 3 cow panels in a hoop. Gonna be a sheep shelter for the ewes that are due in a few weeks. Still need to put up a tarp and put a night pen around it. Monday had to meet son halfway between here and Houston. He left Sunday for Baytown, to go get his RV and bring it...

    Baymule’s Farm

At dawn on March 6, 1836, the 13th day of the siege, the Battle of the Alamo commenced. Fighting lasted roughly 90 minutes, and by daybreak all the Defenders had perished, including a former congressman from Tennessee, David Crockett. The loss of the garrison was felt all over Texas, and even...

    Baymule’s Farm

The past 3 weeks I’ve been helping a friend taping and floating sheetrock. He is building a barndominium. He and his wife are purely city, bought 28 acres with a small 800 square foot cabin on it couple of years ago. They were green as grass. They have learned a lot in this short time. As many...
