    Does Rhubarb Grow Wild?

I was so excited the first spring after we bought our house... rhubarb all over the edge of the woods! Um no... I was so disappointed to find out it was burdock. We've kept it at the edge of the woods (mostly) by mowing. And wouldn't you know... I planted three rhubarb crowns this year and not a...

    Is this Powdery Mildew?

Ok, I'll just keep an eye on it for now then. The tag for the zucchini just said "zucchini", no name, so I don't know what kind it is. Thank you!

    Soaker Hose and Mulch

I ended up not doing the newspaper and just laying some of the mulch over the hoses.

    Does Rhubarb Grow Wild?

Break a stem. If it's solid, it's rhubarb. If it's hollow, it's burdock. My guess is it's burdock. We have a ton of it here and it's a pain in the butt to get rid of.

    Is this Powdery Mildew?

I noticed this white stuff on my zucchini this morning. I didn't see it last night. (Yes, I know I desperately need to weed.) This is a pumpkin that was transplanted from the compost bin. It drooped quite a bit, has now perked up, but now I see a dead leaf. The others look fine. Normal...

    Soaker Hose and Mulch

It's a lay-flat type, haven't unrolled it yet. I thought you weren't supposed to use wood chip mulch? Like the decorative mulch?

    Soaker Hose and Mulch

I am planning on laying a soaker hose for my vegetable garden this year. I need to mulch and was thinking of using newspaper (need to keep costs down) and either dried grass or compost from my bin. Problem with that is it's mostly shavings from a chicken coop clean out (had one die for unknown...

    Rubber Mulch

I used to have horses. I'm not talking a truck load full, just a few bags for a small area. I don't want to kill my butterfly bushes though...

    Rubber Mulch

My husband works for a tire company and can get shredded tires for free. We have a butterfly/hummingbird "garden" next to the porch on one side. The other side just has a small evergreen bush. It was nicely mulched when we bought the house 6 years ago, but we've let it slide and haven't...

    Another Hi From Indiana!

Yes, we have a few large piles of horse manure just waiting to be used! The pasture was divided into two sections, one for grazing, one for dry lot. The 3 acres of grazing is going to be heavily seeded this year to get the actual grass going good before we get something else. I'm hesitant to let...

Hi! I'm Jennifer, aka "TheBrumstead". I found this site a while ago from BYC. We got our first chickens in August. I'm 31, married stay-at-home-mom to an almost 3 yr old boy. I'm also a Lindt Chocolate RSVP consultant, which means I do chocolate parties for people :) We have 7 acres in...
