Mr. stripey and Aunt Ruby are not cooperating.

This year I was unprepared for my own interest in gardening. I only started two kinds of tomatoes but in great quantities, Burpee organic roma and early treat hybrid. Every one of them sprouted. I regret not starting a larger variety. Next year I am not going to regret anything. With the ones I...

Mr. stripey and Aunt Ruby are not cooperating.

I just went out and got a good look and I think the aunt ruby's might be growing out of it. Some of the newest flowers look like they will bloom normally.

Mr. stripey and Aunt Ruby are not cooperating.

My Mr. stripey plants are lush and happy it would seem but they will not produce fruit. The first flowers bloomed over three weeks ago but the tomatoes are still smaller than a pea. With the exception of the fruit they are two of the best looking of my wal-mart bought tomatoes. I could be crazy...

2011 TEG Giant Pumpkin Contest - JOIN US BY AUGUST 1ST!!

I don't know what kind mine is. The seed came from a fairly large pumpkin I bought from a local farm and carved for Halloween last year. When I opened it up there were six sprouted pumpkins growing inside. I didn't save any seeds then but found one after a few snows and put it up. I was going to...

Identify bug(s) and give me the method for annihilation please

Ugh, I hate those guys. I find them in everything but the are pretty predictable so I kill them by hand. I hate that little "can't catch me" jump they do. I can kill upwards of thirty or forty just on my big pumpkin a day. I have read that floating row covers can discourage them. Let the...

    Southwest ohio here.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I do have to learn to let go, take it easy and lose a few plants. I guess that is why I am here. The collective knowledge of the members of this forum is almost like a pacifier. I have been without the internet for the majority of the time I have had my garden. I...

My tomatoes are taking 'forever' to ripen.

It started out slow for me as well. It seems to be picking up exponentially now. Soon I hope very much to be overwhelmed with the ripened beauties as all the different kinds start to produce at their maximum. My first was an Early Treat. They have not gotten to the size they should be yet. Good...

Canning well under way, pic of what I have so far!

I plan on canning like Y2K is right around the bend. I over planted by a wide margin. My mom is willing to pass on her wisdom and I am lucky for that. I remember helping her when I was younger but with the hot nature of the job i was pretty much the button watcher. I could go for a jar of...

    Southwest ohio here.

Hi everyone, This is my first year of gardening. My family have gardened my whole life and to be honest I was lazy and not reliable enough to have living things under my charge. I now find it an obsession. I sometimes can't sleep for the fear of rabbits, raccoons, deer and the like. I found one...
