Lobelia (crystal palace) - starting seeds - questions about transplant

Thanks Warren. :) Well now I have two ways to tackle this. I'm going to try to separate them like you did, Warren - that way I'd have even more plants. But if my patience wears out, I'll go with the mass destruction scratching plan ;)

Lobelia (crystal palace) - starting seeds - questions about transplant

Thanks so much for the great info! I'll give this a try. How big should they be when I do this? Glad to hear I'm not the only lobelia fan. :)

    Hosta for Full Sun?

See, now I have a slightly different experience, and I'm in a northern zone (great lakes). The ones in the true shade grow like maniacs. and spread beautifully. The few that were planted in mostly sun (they only get a little shade) seem almost stunted - they don't really spread well, they seem a...

    Tulip question

The tulips at my mother's house haven't been messed with for decades - and they still come up bright and beautiful every single year. We get some frigid winters, too. My only advice would be to mark the spot where you plant them - so you don't forget later in the year and accidentally dig them...

    Just started flowers question

I haven't done zinnias indoors - only out - but I do lots of other seeds indoors. To me, it sounds like they're reaching for more light than they are getting. They tend to get weedy looking then. Zinnias are awfully tough and they'll probably right themselves when they can finally get outdoors -...

Help. Recieved Roses but can't plant

Wow. I learned a lot just reading this post. Good reply. :) If I may ask - where are you that there is so much snow left? I was so glad to finally see the backside of our snow last week. I'd die if we still had feet of it! You poor thing!

Lobelia (crystal palace) - starting seeds - questions about transplant

Hi all, Last year I found one single lobelia plant hidden in the reject bin at the local walmart and I scooped it up. It was such a tremendous little plant. I adored it's tiny blue flowers so much. So this year, when I saw a seed packet, I grabbed it. I was really shocked at how tiny the...

they can sure spend a lot of time indoors

OCMG, Here is how I use mine. I pour enough steaming hot water over them until they expand completely. I let them stand until they are somewhat cool, then pour off any excess water that didn't absorb. Put seeds in to correct depth. Put them in a sealed clear container (anything really - plastic...

they can sure spend a lot of time indoors

OCMG - I guess that just shows we all can get different results. Mine are just the opposite of you. 100% on the pellets, and horrid on the soil. Glad it works for you all! Maybe when I move I'll have better luck with soil there!

they can sure spend a lot of time indoors

Thanks for the info, Steve. Like they say, "if it ain't broke don't fix it" The results you're showing obviously say "it ain't broke!" Great pics and nice little plants. I love playing with seeds - but you outshine me in quality AND quantity easily. :)

they can sure spend a lot of time indoors

You really do a heck of a nice job with those. Congrats. :) What do you use as your seed starting medium, by the way? I've been using those expandable peat pellets for years now, which I love. Anytime I try to use regular soil, I get damping off disease and lose the few sprouts that come. With...
