    Pokeweeds

I wish I could find me some elderberries! I'd be making my own wine! :D I've been reading about dandelions, haven't tried them.... yet. ;) I'm also on the lookout for wild onions and garlic.

Your favorite way to stake tomatoes?

He's on a committee that takes care of a small town cemetary. They would normally just throw them away once the wreathes and sprays have been removed. The florists never come to pick them up. I imagine if you just asked a funeral home or graveyard keeper, they'd give them to you. :)

    Pokeweeds

Yes, yes... but if it's cooked right you can eat the leaves and stems/stalks. Don't eat the roots or berries, that's where most of the toxins are. There are experienced herbalists who use the roots and berries, but I'll leave that to them. ;) The berries do make a very nice purple...

    Pokeweeds

Awesome! I have not found it growing around my house, which is shocking. My granddad told me all I had to do is rake up a pile of dirt, leaves, and some compost, gather some plants (with berries) and toss them in the pile. Next year, viola! :D Can't wait. I cooked some last night, then...

Your favorite way to stake tomatoes?

    Pokeweeds

Does anyone in the southern states (I don't know how far north it grows) encourage pokeweed to grow for self-harvesting? I'm going to. :D

    Irises - maintenance question

well poop... They are partially shaded because they were planted around a tree. I don't fertilize them, but the chickens might be when they hang out near them. It's not often though. I hate to get rid of them because they are such beautiful flowers! I'll have to look into the staking...

    Irises - maintenance question

I have some lovely royal purple irises that grow in my yard (planted by the previous owner). They're getting so tall that when the flowers bloom, the stem falls over. Is there something I can do to keep this from happening?

Wisteria - only a few flowers a year.

Hmm... Chickens roost in the Wisteria and in general hang out underneath it for a large part of the day. Chickens = lots of poop = loads of fertilizer = way too happy vine = little flowering? I do need to look up pruning it, because I really don't want it growing into the trees like it has...

Wisteria - only a few flowers a year.

I have a very large wisteria vine, it's grown up the pole of a bird house and is spreading into a neighboring tree. However, every year it seems to be flowering less and less. Any advice on getting it to flower more? This year there are only about 3 flowers on it. :(
