....to plant more broccoli? do i have to wait for a fall harvest or do you think i can squeeze another one in now?
Thanks!
I've done pine straw around various herbs and veggies and never had a problem with it. It's also around my roses, which don't seem to mind, except when it gets too thick (it falls naturally there), and then the stems stay a bit too wet.

the beans grow up the corn, and the squash (and yes, pumpkins would be fine) grow along the ground.
don't know about beans choking the corn... might be you need a faster maturing variety? no clue!

Here's the dilly beans recipe from the Ball Blue Book...
2 pounds green beans
1/4 cup canning salt
2 1/2 cups vinegar
2 1/2 cups water
1 tsp. cayenne pepper, divided
4 cloves garlic, divided
4 heads dill, divided
Trim ends off green beans. Combine salt, vinegar and water in a large saucepot...
hey, thanks for the tip - I will certainly try the heating pad idea! I have had the same problems... too wet or not wet enough and some trays never get past the baby leaves...

ok, i know this is an old thread, but I just got a couple of books for my birthday...

my raised beds are filled with layers of last years pine straw and leaves, manure (composted), garden soil, compost and peat moss. I use newspaper as a weed barrier between the raised bed and the ground with good results (then the weeds I have to deal with have flown in from the top, and are...
i LOVE mint and grow several varieties, but you do have to be careful how and where you plant it. Certainly putting it in a barrier like in a pot buried in the garden, helps, as does keeping it trimmed to keep it from flowering and going to seed... which then adds to your problem! (by the way...
could we also have one for herbs? i'm not sure they fit anywhere else...
and I already have the first question - what is the best way (or is there one) to transplant rosemary? I have a some big ones I don't want to part with, but am afraid if I try to dig them up they'll die... I know the...
i've grown bronze and florence. left my bronze in ky when we left, so now we're in ga with the florence and it doesn't bother my other plants, but I have it in an herb bed in between some already huge rosemary and some chives. It gets to be about 4 feet tall in late summer, early fall before...
