Pulsegleaner's Garden 2019; The Uphill Battle

Yes radishes can have pink, purple, or white flowers, depending on the variety. I got all three colors this spring. We enjoyed adding the radish flowers to salads.

Blackberries - soil amendments for berry quality

I appreciate y'all's feedback. The variety I have is Natchez. I figure in a year or two I'll plant another variety for contrast. They are in full sun, the ground seems to be well aerated by moles, earthworms and snakes (small brown ones)' and my chickens do a pretty good job of fertilizing...

Blackberries - soil amendments for berry quality

I have a couple of thornless blackberry bushes here in north Texas, and it's been a great summer for them. I've been getting loads of fairly large berries and expect a couple more weeks of the same. I've had no problem sharing for fresh eating (they disappeared quickly at work), and they make...

    Peppers

I never had good luck with bell peppers until last year. It was a fabulous year for sweet peppers in my garden, though not so much so for the hots.

    Peppers

I grew habaneros one year when I lived in Alabama and the plants crew into shrubs. We didn't even know enough people to give away from our plenitude! Though I have to say that here in Texas I work around lots of young people who claim to be wild about hot peppers... But as I don't currently...

What are You Eating from the Garden?

Dug up potatoes today. Some Yukon gold, some blues. Looking forward to some fragrant, tasty creaminess after roasting with fresh red onions.

What are You Eating from the Garden?

Lettuce, peas, yellow squash, zucchini, onions, strawberries, arugula, various herbs. The odd early-ripening blackberry. Asparagus every once in a while, but I've left quite a few stalks to leaf out.

    RUNuts 2018 Garden thread (attempt)

This is late, and I haven't read through the rest of the posts, but to discourage fire ants it also can help to sweeten the soil with dried molasses.
