    The Lazy Gardener, 2020 edition

Thanks for the encouragement! My whole goal as a gardener is to make things as efficient and fuss free as possible, cause I'm a bit lazy when it comes to gardening...or rather I have too much to do and not enough time to do it all! And yes, I really really miss having actual livestock. Got...

    The Lazy Gardener, 2020 edition

Hi all, I know it's been a very long time since my last post, but life happened! I'm still trying to garden, but not doing any better at it than I have in the past, I'm just too stubborn to give up trying. I was doing very well with my houseplants and making slow but steady progress outside...

What Did You Do In The Garden?

I went out and looked at the weed patch previously known as my garden and made a list. The humidity has broken here, but it is still hot to be working out in the sun. I plan on starting my list this weekend, after the temperatures drop! I may be moving before the end of the year, but I am...

What Did You Do In The Garden?

I have been trying the cardboard + compost/mulch method for years, and it's not making a difference. I keep trying, but it's bad.

What are You Eating from the Garden?

I managed to get one peach off my peach tree! The deer hit them about a week before the peaches got ripe, pulled every single one of them off the tree and left them on the ground. I found one that wasn't too bruised and close to being actually ripe and brought it inside to finish it. It was...

What Did You Do In The Garden?

I started my winter tomatoes in the aerogarden today, and made an attack plan for getting the outside gardens back under control now that it is cooler. I hate to say it, but I have...nothing in the garden this year. It's so overgrown with volunteer morning glories (and, of course, bindweed)...

    Pantry thread

We have a small closet we use as a pantry in the kitchen, although it was originally designed to be a stairwell to the basement if our prefab was put on a basement foundation instead of a slab. It's not very big, and very awkwardly shaped, so the smallest bedroom is being lined with wire...

    Frozen Pies ?

I made a raspberry cherry pie with tapioca last week Steve, and it was wonderful! Next year I am planning on adding strawberries or blueberries and putting several in the deep freeze. There's nothing like a pie made with in-season summer fruit in the middle of a winter snowstorm!

    Frozen Pies ?

I freeze mine unbaked, pull it from the freezer to sit on the counter while the oven preheats. I seem to remember my mother par-baking the bottom crust on fruit pies for the freezer when I was little, but don't quote me on that one. Grocery prices here are going way, way up, very quickly...

    Hopes for Your future Garden

My hopes for this year is to just find the time to garden, period. With only two days off a month and 60+ hour workweeks, everything that isn't work has been put on the back burner. My gardens are being eaten alive by bindweed, and I just don't have the energy to even get started.

    Your Weather, 2021

Hottest weekend of the year so far right now, and my ac has been broken for a week. Part to fix it comes in Monday, but the whole house is droopy and tempers are getting short. 95 yesterday, 90 today, 90 tomorrow. Lows in the lower 70s, and they have taken the rain that was supposed to break...

    Price increases and shortages

I have seen so many shortages locally at the stores, and those of us in the grocery business have been warned that there are more shortages and price hikes coming. The cost of beef in my store has doubled this month (beef brisket is now 12.99 a lb), and we've been warned that pork prices will...

    The Lazy Gardener, 2020 edition

Thanks, Bay! Unfortunately it looks like I just had visitors, there was nothing in the hive. I went ahead and made the decision to go ahead and seal off the entrances to keep a swarm from moving in. I don't like where that hive is, and I'm still very allergic to bee stings. I promised the...

What Did You Do In The Garden?

Planted my sweet corn today, emptied the potting mix of some old flowerpots with nothing in them on top of my potatoes. Did a little weeding, stuck a few beet seeds in the ground between the cabbages, think I can get one round of them before the cabbages shade them out. Also planted some...

    Confused about mulch

I was the one who poisoned a huge chunk of my garden soil by bringing in properly composted manure from animals that had been fed hay sprayed with herbicides that wouldn't break down running through the animals or in the heat of the pile. I had to switch my garden methods entirely, and to this...

What Did You Do In The Garden?

I started some seeds in my aerogarden, all herbs this time. Now that the holiday weekend craziness is over at work, next day off I am going to plant my seed corn and green beans, since the soil is finally warm enough.
